UNAMID vehicle carjacked within half kilometer of base

October 6, 2008 (NYALA) – An international police officer driving a vehicle for the UN-African Union hybrid peacekeeping operation in Darfur (UNAMID) was intercepted by five armed men who ordered the driver out of the car at gun point, UNAMID reported on Sunday. The incident occurred about 500 meters from the Field Operating Base (FOB) near Nyala town.

No harm was caused to the driver and an investigation will be conducted on the whereabouts of the vehicle and to catch the perpetrators.

A July 7 report of the UN Secretary General on the deployment of the UNAMID forces stated, “a dramatic increase in carjackings, in particular along the main supply routes through Southern Darfur, also contributed significantly to insecurity and impeded the delivery of humanitarian aid into the region.

“During the month of April, 18 United Nations/non-governmental organization vehicles were carjacked; that figure rose to 31 vehicles during the month of May,” the report noted.

The vehicle thefts continued throughout the summer. The Secretary General reported updated figures to the UN Security Council on Aug. 18: “the number of carjackings increased from 23 in May and 21 in June to 31 in July. Since January 2008, more than 120 vehicles have been hijacked throughout Darfur.”

UNAMID vehicle carjacked within half kilometer of base
The UNAMID is definitely backing the revolt of Dafuri terror organizations against Khartoum, and “PLEASE” do not stated that the UNAMID vehicle is carjacked by Darfuri bandits, that I don’t believe it…
The failure of Minni Minawi’s peace deal signed in 2 years ago at Abuja, Nigeria, and the retaliations of results of May 2006 a deal that didn’t make change on the ground, that’s why!
The U.N. has appointed a puppet of Nigerian captain over Darfur and the idea is topple down Khartoum by UN led Darfuri bandits.
