El-Sisi calls for unity and political solution in Sudan
July 7, 2024 (CAIRO) – The Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi discussed ways to settle the Sudanese conflict with international officials and Sudanese actors who took part in a meeting held in Cairo on Sunday.
Egyptian presidential spokesperson, Ahmed Fahmy, stated that El-Sisi received a Sudanese political leaders and foreign officials including Chadian Foreign Minister Abdelraman Koulamallah, senior officials from the Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, South Sudan, and Germany, and representatives from the African Union, the Arab League, the European Union, the United Nations, and ambassadors from several countries including France, the United Kingdom, Norway.
Fahmy reported that El-Sisi expressed his appreciation for the participants’ positive response to Egypt’s invitation to the conference, themed “Together to Stop the War.” He stressed the importance of unifying Sudanese perspectives on ending the war, especially in light of the critical juncture facing the country.
The Egyptian President reiterated his nation’s unwavering commitment to bridging divides between Sudanese factions, ending the war, restoring security and stability, and safeguarding the Sudanese people’s well-being.
He also emphasized the urgency of finding a comprehensive political solution to the multifaceted crisis in Sudan, one that addresses the dire political, social, and humanitarian consequences.
El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s extensive bilateral, regional, and international efforts to mitigate the impact of the Sudanese crisis, providing comprehensive support that reflects the deep-rooted ties between the two nations.
Furthermore, El-Sisi underscored that any transition to a political track must prioritize Sudan’s national interest and include participation from all relevant parties. He called for upholding Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity as fundamental principles for the nation’s stability and future.
The spokesperson added that representatives of the Sudanese political and civil forces expressed their gratitude for Egypt’s steadfast support and welcomed its leadership in facilitating dialogue and offering humanitarian aid to the Sudanese people displaced by the conflict.
