August 15, 2024 (KASSALA/DONGOLA) – Sudan’s health ministry on Thursday reported 11 new cholera cases, including one death, bringing the total to 300 cases and 18 deaths since the outbreak was declared last week.

The Wad Al-Hiliu area in Kassala state has been hardest hit, with 143 cases and eight deaths.

The outbreak comes as heavy rains and flooding have disrupted healthcare services and exacerbated the spread of diseases like malaria and dengue fever.

In the Northern State, 31 people have died and 179 others have been injured due to flooding, with 155 cases of scorpion stings also reported. Over 2,300 homes have been destroyed and thousands of families displaced.

Cases of epidemic conjunctivitis have also surged, reaching 1,569 with 26 recoveries.
