Sudan and Chad to re-exchange ambassadors on 7-10 Nov

October 27, 2008 (KHARTOUM) — Re-exchange ambassadors between Sudan and Chad will take place from the 7th to the 10th of November, the foreign minister told the Sudanese parliament in Khartoum today.

Deng Alor briefed Monday the lawmakers about the action of his ministry during the last period. He spoke about government efforts to counter ICC indictment of the Sudanese president and the settlement of Darfur crisis.

The exchange of ambassadors is considered as necessary step to prepare the normalization of relations between the two countries, Alor told reporters after the briefing.

He further said that a meeting of technicians and military personnel tasked with preparing the normalization will be held in the Chadian capital N’Djamena in the days of 12, 13 and 14 November.

The exchange of ambassador was decided last week in a meeting held in Tripoli between the Libyan Secretary of African Affairs Abdel Salam Al-Tiraiki, Sudanese presidential advisor Mustafa Osman Ismail and Chadian Foreign Minister Musa Feki. The three officials agreed to meet on November 15, in N’Djamena on November 15.

Since last August Sudan and Chad agreed to restore bilateral relations. The move was in response to a Libyan initiative to mend relations between the two neighbours. Sudan severed ties with Chad following a rebel raid on Khartoum last May.
