November 1, 2008 (BOR TOWN) – Residents of Lang-baar, a Bor Town suburb, were shocked on Friday evening following a tragic killing of one year old baby by a step mother whose self-claimed insanity has been dismissed.
The woman identified as Yar Nyok, carnaged Ajang Deng Anyuat while he was sleeping using a knife and continued cutting through the baby’s gastro region. The baby dies instantly.
Yar, with help of two sisters, who guide her, took refuge at Bor Police station since Friday.
She has been detained and charged of murder. The mother of the deceased, Akut Ajang is being vigilantly restrained from an equivalent retaliation by press time.
The ladies [Yar and Akut] are the latest two of Deng Anyuat’s six wives, who is a chief magistrate of Jonglei Judiciary Court and Bor citizen. Relatives say the two have no isolated conflict rather than sharing the same man.
Yar Nyok’s mental health has been formerly doubted which prompted her husband to invite two sisters in-law for guidance. The ladies who monitor Yar, for unknown reasons, took the matter slightly, boosting distrust that “there is no mental disorder rather than family differences,” a relative told Sudan Tribune on Saturday.
Before the baby’s slaughtering, Yar is said to have warned her husband earlier in the week of terrible consequences if he don’t consider divorce. The lady, in her mid twenties (20s), is said to have persistently refused marrying Mr. Anyuat who is about sixty years old, a matter which she took for madness.
Local doctors are said to have claimed that Yar has chronic malaria and typhoid but ruled out brain bewilderment.
Neighbors were brought to an attention when a by-passing girl raises an alarm while watching the self-claim mad woman dancing around a blood stained baby. The Good Samaritans to be, were too late to serve the life of a year old boy; described by parents and relatives as “lovely and source of all happiness.”
The mother of the deceased Akut Ajang, had gone shopping when the incident that took her youngest son occurred. She left the baby with an elder sister who was deceived by uncaring Yar to go buying ‘something’ from a nearby shop; only to kill her brother at last. Ajang Deng was the youngest brother of two boys and two girls.
While in Bor police station, Yar, a mother of one boy, is maintaining her insane status; dancing restlessly and singing unclear songs. She is the third woman in Jonglei capital Bor to join murder queue after two women pushed their husband to a grave in January, 2008. Another mother of one kill her son (from outside sentiments) this year.
Most young people in Bor Town attribute the up surging women murdering cases to force marriages and polygamy but elders rejected the claim; pointing fingers at cultures divergence among young people.
Jonglei state judiciary has been labelled one of the most challenged chambers of government in the state. Complicated cases are filled-up without trail due to limited number of judges, a jury insider says.
Dominate in jail includes inmates of tribal conflicts and cattle raiders; a force behind insecurity in Jonglei state. Children are the most venerable in either cases; facing abductions from one direction and equally victims of family division.

What the hell, why do you kill this little baby who has nothing in heart aganist anyone, you the people of bor and dinka in general i think your beliefs are damaged for good, because you think life is valueless among yourselves. Shooting, corruption,stealing, looting, raping, violence and all meants of barbaric things are yours, what do you really have in your own mind? I recommand that you better change your name from dinka to something else like mur-muk or stop marking those scars on your face. This are my suggestions because i want to see you in peace not being hostile to each other. I hope judges will give this killer a fair punishment for destroying the Southerner generation and future garrison for this land.

I express my condolence to the family of Deng Anyuat which must do something about that unless woman!
Women are becoming a big problem world over and the worst in Southern Sudan! In the South Sudan, due to the so call “25%”, they have become stupid and unlawful! What do they want from sex if they they can kill their own children and husband? They are becoming unless! There has being polygamy since creation in Dinka culture and that is why other tribes say: Dinka is the best! Because we are many and more united through the polygamy than any other tribes. There is no room to stop it now.
The issue of force marriage is however barbaric though it’s common among the expected change age group! Why do you marry a person who heats you? To be sincere, this action will stop whether we like it or not!
The elders, who force their unvaluable girls for unbeneficail marriages need to think twice!
Let’s us consider it 50-50….

A formation of anti-more than one wife marriage system for Jang [Dinka] is vital for putting an end to hatred related crimes such as this horrible action.
Even a Devil himself could not carry out a crime like this one. Anyway as I mentioned, marrying more than one wife has always been a source of most brutal actions and counter-actions amongst Jang families.
Forming a government’s sponsor forum to discuss advantages and disadvantages of multi-wives system in Jang culture will solve hatred problems as well as discriminations against women.
A system that gives men rights to marry more wives and forbid women to do so must be abolished because it is a discriminate system. This does not mean that I am trying to justify the killing of the innocent infant. It is a crime committed by desires far beyond evilism.
I wouldn’t argue those whom we permit to insult us like Big Logic because that will fit me in “heartless person turns directing to insults”.
And finally, a husband of these wives should be investigated for his indirect role in the crime.

You are really a boy and this is why you talk childishly. Some two people were killed in Nimule on alledged poisoning but you do not want to report because you like sitting on problems.
Is there a day in Nimule the people do not go for funerals of officials who are poisoned.
Also, a woman was poisoned with her 3 children by a co-wife this week ina village in Equatoria and you kept quite, how beneficial is it to sit on problems? Do not pluck out a twig in my eyes leaving a post in your eyes, how will you see me if you don’t do that? It is new to Dinka and that is why they report but for you it is something towhich you are acustomed to.

this is an outrageous murder of liltle baby. the government of south sudan must do something about child protection legislations to avoid such incidence in future. people are still with that mentality where they think they can kill their children and get away unpunish for their criminal act on the ground that, they child is theirs and no one can punish them.children are not only for their biological parents but for the society, the country and the world. who knows if that innocent baby could have invented a drug that can cures 21st century disease or maybe becomes a great leader. i urged the citizens of south sudan to press the government to make child abuse a criminal offence and to place tough penalties like 10 years in jailed in cases of murder. a reminder to men, stop polygamous marriages because having many wives in urban centres is one source of family instability as resources may be inadequate to cater for the needs of children and wives ranging from foods, medical expenses, schooling and luxurious.i think those men who are now thinking about having extra wives should learn about the long term impacts of their choices. instead they should concentrated their resources in making sure that their children attained a quality education and satisfying their needs and wants.the husband is at fault becauses having many wives in towns always created hatred among them due financial pressure.

Oh my God I can beleive a human being can do this. this a bad tragedy to hear. This is so disgusting and dismay. It is disgrace to the family of the girl sine they are they one who plant kind of evile act. This is what we all say to our people to stop being greedy about wealth. They forced their duaghters to be married by an old wealthy people that are not their true lovers. They don;t lets their duaghters choose their future and true love and they lets them go with their dying heart. Every one deserve a happy live rather than to die with broken heart.
Yet another problem is that people just accumulating wives like stones. I don’t why people married too many wives, is it all about sexually motivated or about pride. One woman is enouagh to man. People claim to be religious and they don’t even follow what they beleive. I hope they don’t even satisfy them during their sexually time.
I really condem all those who still practiced this kind of evile act. this is all in the pass and to hell with those who stil advocate this act and we need to change from that attitude. People have to resort from polygamy.
It is inhumane to kill innocent baby. You don’t need to put your on angry onto the kid. My advice is to all those who are out there who want to marrige not to marrige a girl who did not really love and not through parent influence because of your wealth they put first. Don’t ever try to marrige more than one wife because at the of the day you will end like that.
