Bus attacker killed in Jonglei’s Bor

By Philip Thon Aleu

December 13, 2008 (BOR TOWN) – A gunman has been killed by soldiers on Anyidi – Bor Town road, about two miles east of Bor Town airport, on Friday at Wun-ee-chuei. Soldiers, alerted by survivors of the ambushed mini-bus, engulfed the armed men, open fire and killed a gangster dressed in dark blue clothes as others sprint off for their dear life.

Experts, who examined a modified dental formula, scares marked on his skin and circular plastic won on arms and legs, say he is a Murle tribesman. The body remained for public parade at Bor Civil Hospital for hours before burial was commenced later on Saturday by State Police.

No relative were available to claim his remains.

The incident, at the vicinity of Jonglei capital, is the first closest tragedy since December, 2007 when a bus was ambushed on the same road. An earlier raiding in Baidit Payam in Bor County in November, 2007 ignited a wild mob in Bor Civil Hospital where four patients were killed by angry relatives of deceased.

Reports of surging raiding, counter killing and cattle theft have, however, being frequent in recent months but from areas relatively far from the State capital.

Joint Integrated Unit (JIU) soldiers, who rushed to the scene (Wun-ee-chuei) on Friday December 12, following driver’s alert, successfully defeated the wrestlers who ambushed the bus. The soldiers on the other hand told reporters on Saturday that they did not kill the man but left him dead beside the bus.

Soldiers were safe after the brief operation, military officers said. The deceased gun was not captured by the army and believed to have been taken by the fearless raiders terrorizing Jonglei villages.

Government of Southern Sudan recommended a massive disarmament in May and effective as June 1, 2008 but the effort seem to have taken little effect on villagers’ livelihoods. Reports from various corners, in Jonglei State, indicate that raiding is taking the traditional trend – common during winter, November and December.

Most of the raiding reports, including the recently Twic East’s, are blamed on Murle tribesmen despite refusal for an open acceptance. However, rare occurrence indicted other communities specially Twic East Payam of Mar which allegedly raided Duk in November, 2008 but raiders lost five men when comforted by organized forces.

We are tired of these armed civilians. It would be good if all were captured; alive or dead, and a new life without raiding begins in Southern Sudan.

    Double representation

There is no need to have representatives of people in the parliament and the same people over populate bushes. This is where one can question the fairness of some leaders. I doubt whether these leadres really believe that they faithfully.

I understand that Speaker of Jonglei Assembly, Jodi Boyris is from Pibor (Murle), what does the constitution passed in August this year say about raiding and child abduction?

Pibor Member of Parliament at Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly and GoSS presidential Advisor on Peace, what can you tell us about the people you are representing in parliament and at the same time flooding bushes? Do you guys have another gov’t in the bush?

It is time for cattle keeping societies rethink and accept that there is life out animals. Join other form of living and your villages will have peace.

Bless the soldiers who carryout this successful operation….

With all that 20 years civil war which claimed dozens of lives in southern sudan,I strongly oppose that killing for Murule are good people and if they are bad,it is the environment which corrupts them. Therefore,we must kill that environment instead of Muruleans for if those who want to kill Murule were in that environment they would all dance rythemically. It is true that the whole government is slow as far as the disarmament is consern.what is the president of Jongolei doing? is he too fat to implement the government’s plan?

Yes, we need all raiders to be captured and detained but not to be killed. The interest is to bring them to the law not deprive the south of people. In elections, we use people. In war we use people. In development we need people to provide labour. Let They should be captured if possible and taken to work for the government. If we kill them, we have no law and it is needless to fihgt for a state thaht will have no law.
But, no blame incase it is hard to capture them alive for they also want to kill and capture.

Do not decieve any one that Buor talk in a manner that any one who knows the language can not understand. What has Madit said apart from saying that Buor were the ones who captured that raider. Do not be corrupt for you are yet young.
Thank you Jayo for condemning Peterlapal.

    All lies of all time

Bor normally want to brand Murle with the colors of their choice no question to that. The story is not as it is stated in this acticle, the guy who is dead was not attacker of the bus, he was a trader who came from Juba on his way to Pibor, he did not even carry a gun but his carry-on goods on his way home, so when Bor civilian saw this guy who was innocently standing to request for the ride, they angrily mulled him to death before they call security forces for the body. However, the body has not yet been confirmed to be the one for Murle either as reporter indicated.

Surrounding all these circumstances, Bor jumped into conclusion of their choice simply to reinforce the last week’s accussations.

Anyway, this is how everybody should see this claim as pure make-up, first if army would have shot this gunmen they would have seized his rifle. Secondly, gunmen can not ambushed the bus and everybody in the bus escaped unhurt while the gunmen who intended to kill turn out to be the victim,, that don’t make any sense.

People, lies has never taken us ahead and will not take us ahead. Please let try to be honest, there is no need to make up stories against each other because if there was really gunmen who tried to kill innocent people and it happened that he was killed, I think no body will support him since he is one those criminals who give people headache everyday. But the story of this particular incident was not true, it was just fabricated for tribal hatred and indeed the all thing was tribally motivated.

I hope you Jongkoth turn fair, that is my prayers to you.

    God bless

I think reporters need to read their news articles before posting them knowing that these articles are going to be read by others who will try to understand the news. What do you mean by a ” deceased gun”?

Thank you for your enquiry from the reporter. According to my understanding using basic comprehension skills, the reporter is meaning “the gun of the deceased” simply “the gun of he who has died”. Let us approach reporters only on the validitiy of the message but not grammartical errors.

    Hi guys

Listen, if I were from Bor I would have thought PeterPalalda’s phrase twice if not ten times. In reality, every tribe is very important in southern Sudan, there would have been no South Sudan without Bor, Nuer Mundari, Murle, Acholi, Anyuak or any other tribe regardless of its size. But when people paint you as bad community, one wise man should sit down and deliberate over this again and again.

I am thoroughly convinced that, Bor are not Bad by nature, but you people have developed unrepaireable deformities this two decades and it seem you people have not yet realized how this kind of political disease is going to affect you both politically and socially in a near future.

English man says, “too much of everything is dangerous” there is a great evidence that everybody from Bor community see himself as good politician. young kids who have not even completed primary schools love to speak politics, a woman from village inside Bor county pretend to be good politician. This is very bad disease that Bor intellectuals need to work on. Politics should be left for those who differentiate between good politics which can help community and the bad politics that brings harm to the community instead of good.

I confess this because I want all of us to be good brothers of tomorrow. If Bor continue to follow the current way of doing things today, I am sure no one will vote for Bor next time when the country is democratically stabilized where free and fair elections are held.

Most of you foolishly believe that, you are the smartest community in south Sudan, but that is deep false. Try to do survey and find out how many tribes love you and give me an answer.

Therefore you need to read PeterPalalda ( we Bour are dangerous community) again and again in analysis than to smaks against him.
