Equatorian leaders committee celebrates Gen. Mamur’s release

January 17, 2009 (JUBA) – Equatorian leaders came together today in Juba, the capital of Southern Sudan’s, to celebrate the release of Maj. Gen. Isaac Obuto Mamur Mete, which occurred December 31 after he had been detained for nearly two years due to a disagreement within the leadership of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA).
The Equatorian organizing chairman Hon. Peter Bashir described the meetings as not being against anybody, but just an opportunity to thank God for the release and reinstatement of Mamur by the staunch Catholic leader and President of Southern Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit, who reportedly ordered the general’s release after a series meetings with him.
“It is regretable that our fellow Equatorians have not turned up for this important day of planning and action to educate our youth as future leaders in Equatoria,” remarked Bashir.
The chairman disclosed that there were 69 Equatorian MPs and ministers who signed the petition for release of Mamur soon after he was arrested. The Equatorians view Mamur as a patriotic fighter in the SPLA forces.
Hon. Jimmy Wango posed, “For how long must we fear as Equatorians to appreciate one of our gallant fighters in the history of SPLM/A, in the person of Obuto Mamur?”
Yet the majority of Equatorians present in Juba deliberately did not attend today’s meeting, apparently intimidated by senior government offices who accused them of reviving Kokora, an ideology of decentralization of the south.
“Anyone who has never been to prison always fears to go to prison,” remarked Hon. Wango
He added that Equatorians are going to revive the Equatoria Development Bank to enable them get loans for development and empowerment of their people in southern Sudan.
The thanksgiving prayer will take place in the first week of next month to give ample chance for the general to go for medical a checkup abroad.
The organizing committee is comprised of Peter Bashir, Jimmy Wango, El Hag Babala, Oturomoi, Pasquale Baidi, Peter Longole, Davi Mayo,Agens Kwaje, Sebit Abe, Zenab and representatives from Juba University among others.

The release of Maj. Gen. Isaac Obuto Mamar is great news and should be welcomed with open arms and hearts by all fellow Equatorians from all walks of life both at home and abroard. I also want to thank the Equatorian leaders for committing to such a worthy cause and being bold enough to show support for a revolutionary like Gen. Mamar who as we all know gave more then his share to the liberation which orthers are now enjoying. My question is why are the public (Equatorians) not showing their appreciation to this hero who deserves more than a welome ?( i really don’t care what orther people think or say )Our nation needs leaders like the Gen. who has the experience and capability to deliver as we all witnessed during the SPLA liberation struggle days, we as Equatorians must unite under our leaders and elders in order to have a strong front which will enable our representatives and leaders to powerfuly drive our points home ( be it in parliament house or where ever Equatoria is concerned) I as an Equatorian therefore thank Gen. Mamur for making us proud (regardless of who says what )and hope nothing happens to him, as the state of insecurity is rampant in south Sudan and some figures might capitolise on such situation to carry out evil intentions.

EQUATORIANS ARE DISAPPOINTED BY THEIR LEADERS!!!!
in the three states of equatoria,there are constant harassments,killings, rape,massaccres, land issues,corruptions,etc etc, but equatoria leaders do not show up in the expectation of their masses to help the situation. Is it a surprise therefore if equatorians boycot such sessions of such leaders?

This is an open letter to Comm. Mamur:
It was a pleasure to participate in the fight for freedom in Sudan with what would become my many friends in the SPLA.
As you all know I lived locally with you, worked with you and celebrated victories for the cause.
Sudan,was not the first area where I participated in the fight against expansionist Islam; Yugoslavia, Indonesia, the Phillipines and other places where first all involved before coming to Sudan.
Comm. Mamur, you are a true friend, partisan and a brother in arms. As the corruption and deception grew to a boiling point, there weren’t many to trust, but my time and conversations with you are still with me. You are a genuine Crusader and it seems you suffered at the very hands of those you worked with. This type of treatment has been experienced by others, the list is long thru history.
Internal struggle always stifles creativity, moral and high ideals. The infighting and selfishness within the movement is what caused the sickness within, of course, in guerrilla struggle, suspicion and jealousy are at the top of the list.
CDR Mammur, It was a pleasure and may be again to work together, wherever. You were not forgotten during your incarceration.
It has been fulfilling to be involved in the crusade and fight for freedom for many years.
It was fine to particpate in South Sudan, for the Cause is greater than the corruption.
Commander, you steadfastness was and is noticed by true commmrades, and is now.
My greetings to true crusaders, freedom fighters and commrades in South Sudan.
The struggle, the crusade, the fight for freedom continues world-wide.
