Sudan army denies responsibility for Malakal fighting

February 26, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — The Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) rejected any responsibility in causing the recent Malakal incidents saying it has no militia in the area and urged investigation into the issue.

Several dozen people died Tuesday in clashes in Malakal between a southern militia led by Gabriel Tang Ginye, who resides in Khartoum, and the South Sudan army, or Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA).

In the aftermath of the attack, Southern figures referred to the militia forces as SAF, since in fact Tang and all his forces were incorporated into Sudan’s army in 2006. Indeed in a statement issued today, the spokesperson of the Sudanese army in Khartoum underlined that Tang’s militia is now absorbed into the Sudanese army as agreed in the CPA and some of it are now deployed in Malakal as part of the Joint Integrated Units (JIUs) since November 2007.

So the SAF dismissed the “unfounded allegations” that Gen. Tang has militia in Malakal, whereas earlier reports had indicated that Tang’s former forces rallied to him upon his arrival, including those in the JIU.

The statement insisted moreover that SAF has no militia in southern Sudan, adding that Gen. Tang is an officer in the army and he went to visit his family in Malakal.

SAF thus appears to be implying that the fighting in Malakal was strictly tribal in nature. At a press conference upon his reluctant return to Khartoum, Tang described the clashes as “tribal.”

He said, “My problem is with Salva Kiir (the SPLA commander-in-chief) and the southern government, and the problem is between Dinka and Nuer; the Sudanese government has nothing to do with it.” Some of the SPLA soldiers in Malakal are Dinka and some are Nuer; but according to Tang, all the commanders were Dinka.

Nothing prevented Tang’s visit to the city according to the Sudanese constitution, said SAF, “which provides the freedom of movement.”

Further downplaying the outcast status that Tang had earned for even worse clashes in Malakal in 2006, the statement said there was no decision or judiciary warrant to arrest him.

The army also charged SPLA of violating the security arrangement in the CPA when it deployed troops from outside the town in order to arrest him. It also accused the SPLA of killing a large number of northern Sudanese in their homes and burning their property. Likewise, yesterday the government-sponsored Sudan Media Center reported that ten northern traders were among the dead.

“What happened in Malakal recently calls for the formation of a joint investigation commission because that the SPLA has lost control of his troops in the region,” the statement words.

Thank you Tang. Let’s go kill all the dumb asse Dinkas. Tang has the right to see his family and no one would force him to leave his mother land since his intention was not to come cause a fight between him and the dumb SPLA Dinkas. It is consitutional right to live anywhere in Sudan as he wises and no one would force him to relocate becaue of his political association.

SPLA should be hold accountable for causing insecurity in Malakal. I’m calling for Southern Sudan government to compensate those who lost love ones in this clases. To dumb asses Dinkas, the time for domination is over. Garang is dead and Nyadeng is a woman, she cannot do anything since she has no militias. Where will you go Dinkas? Leave Tang alone. First you must go get Abiel Alair, Bona malual, and rest of who are in governemnt side before you pick on my people.

Mr. Maj. General Gebrial Tang Gatwech (Ginye) Chan,

The problem between you and Mr. Salva Kiir is not Dinka & Nuer problem as you describe it. Even when the two movements (SPLM/A and SSLM/A/Anya Nya II) clashed back in 1983, it was because of ideology/vision or objectives of the two movements not because of tribal lines as you may believe, sir. I cannot lecture you on that because you were there in Bilpam since 1975 until your Headquartors Bilpam was burned down to ash by the criminal coward evil guy through the support of his friend Mengistu Mariam of Ethiopia within 1983.

When Dr. Riak and other separatists clashed with the unionists who blindly support that damn poor vision known as “United Secular/New Sudan,” it was not because of Dinka and Nuer problem as some might believe it, but again it was because Dr. Garang was not only running the movement as his own property, but lack of clear objectives and human right violations within the movement.

Your friend Lt. General Paulno Matip and his countless officers and soldiers joined the SPLM/A for the first time in 2005 just after Dr. Garang went to hell along with his poor vision “New Sudan.”

The Mighty Naath community must not be used by some individuals just for their self-interests because the Mighty Naath community cannot only defend itself from the outside enemies, but declars very ugly dirty war and invade/raid others and occupy their lands base on its own interests.

Mr.Nuer and your colleagues who praised Tang by fighting SPLA in Malakal, SPLA is not for DINKA alone. If you don’t understand, the abbreviation “SPLA” it stands for ‘Sudan People’s liberation Army’. Do you see any letter “D” representing the word DINKA there? If you don’t, then why do you keep saying SPLA is for DINKA?

Well, if that is what you wish, let it be. And now leave alone SPLA, you Nuer can not defeat Dinka in terms of fighting. Look, how many attempts have you made toward Dinka and you have failed? It was just ‘Gelweng’ with you.
I am sure you Nuer yourself with Colleagues that support Tang have never seen a battle filed since you were born. I am sure you were taking refuge in abroad. You don’t know what fighting is.

I wish you a safe journey to hell but don’t be late for your funeral.

I am tired of your childish comments eversince.

    FUCK !!!!

The Sudan Government is behine the attack in Malakal town. And the SAF should not blindfold the Southern Sudan Government that it was a tribal clases between Nuer and Dinka. My question to Khartoum government is: Does the JIUs constitute only the Dinka and Nuer from the South? this is a baseless accusation?.

Bashir’s visit to Juba was only to draw the attention of Southern Politicians including Kiir to keep them busy during the very day the classes sparked off while the so called Ginya flew to Malakal to launch an offensive in the town of Malakal targetting the Southern Sudan army.

Bashir has reputations to disorganise the CPA and possibly the coming election to be held in some couples of months to come and this is not the first of its kind.He thinks Ginya cold be the first to be persued to launch an offensive because he is a southerner from Malakal by a gesture. And by so doing the southern population could think it’s a classes between the Nuer and Dinka.

Salva Kiir should beware that tribalism could be a time bomb for his government especially these two tribes who don’t come into reconciliation and this is something dangerous which requires attention.
