UN demands accountability for ‘deliberate’ RSF attacks on civilians in El Fasher

October 12, 2025 (PORT SUDAN) – The United Nations has strongly condemned a series of “repeated and deliberate” attacks on civilians in El Fasher, North Darfur, allegedly carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), and demanded that those responsible be held accountable.

In a statement released Sunday, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) detailed recent assaults that killed at least 110 civilians, including strikes on a shelter for displaced persons and the city’s last major functioning hospital.

“These incidents demand thorough, impartial investigations, and those responsible must be held accountable,” the UN agency declared, denouncing the attacks “in the strongest possible terms.”

The condemnation followed deadly drone attacks on October 10 and 11 on a shelter for internally displaced people in the Daraja Oula neighbourhood, which killed at least 57 civilians, including women and children.

Earlier, between October 5 and 8, a series of attacks reportedly by the RSF left at least 53 civilians dead and over 60 injured. A key target was the Saudi Hospital, which the UN described as “a devastating blow to the survival of civilians trapped in the city.”

Reiterating that civilian infrastructure is protected under international law, the statement stressed, “Hospitals, shelters, and places of refuge must not be targeted.”

The UN called for an immediate end to the violence and reiterated its commitment to supporting those affected by the conflict. “Civilians need to be protected. The humanitarian community requires access, and, above all, the people of Sudan need the violence to stop.”
