October 27, 2025 (EL FASHER) – The spokesman for a joint military force was killed on Monday during clashes in El Fasher, the capital of Sudan’s North Darfur state.

Colonel Ahmed Hussein Mustafa died during fighting between the Sudanese army and its allies against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the Joint Force said in a statement.

The fighting followed an announcement by the RSF on Sunday that it had seized control of the 6th Infantry Division headquarters, the army’s main base in the city. The RSF has since been accused of widespread abuses against civilians, including targeting people fleeing towards the nearby town of Tawila.

The Joint Force statement said Mustafa was killed “while performing his national duty in defending the homeland,” and described him as “an example of soldiery and discipline.”

The fate of other senior commanders, including 6th Infantry Division commander Major General Mohammed al-Khidir, remains unclear. Unconfirmed reports circulated on RSF-affiliated social media platforms claimed they were killed in a drone attack.
