November 21, 2025 (KHARTOUM) – Two fighters from a pro-army militia were killed on Friday evening in Sudan’s northern city of Dongola after refusing orders from local military commanders, residents, and a military source said.

The confrontation erupted in the city centre after the armed group, known locally as “Awlad Qamari” (Sons of Qamari), refused to comply with instructions from the army commander in Dongola, the sources told Sudan Tribune.

Army checkpoints were deployed following the clash, and the armed group’s fighting vehicles were taken to army headquarters, according to the sources. Reports said the group’s leader sustained a severe injury and two of his guards were killed.

The Awlad Qamari group has been fighting alongside the army against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since the war broke out in Sudan in April 2023. However, reports indicate its members have committed security breaches in Northern State and refused to integrate into regular army units.

Calm has returned to the city, the sources said.

Several armed groups have joined the Sudanese army in its conflict with the RSF paramilitary force, which has devastated the country since April 2023.
