RSF attack kills 15 civilians in North Kordofan, official says

July 24, 2026 (EL OBEID) – An attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the Burbur area south of El Obeid killed 15 civilians and injured seven others, the North Kordofan state government said on Friday.

The RSF has intensified drone strikes targeting El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state, and its surrounding areas in recent days.

In a joint statement, the state government and the security committee condemned Thursday’s assault on unarmed civilians as a treacherous violation of humanitarian law and basic norms. The statement added that the attacking force looted livestock and terrorized local residents.

The government said armed forces and regular units acted immediately to chase the attackers, driving them out and securing full control over the area, while mop-up operations continue to neutralize further threats.

State authorities reassured residents that the security situation in the area remains under full control.

Separately, local sources told Sudan Tribune that an RSF drone targeted water stations supplying several towns in the Rahad Al-Nuba area of North Kordofan, near the border with Khartoum state.

The sources confirmed that the strike destroyed water infrastructure in the town of Um Nabaq and in Rahad Al-Nuba itself.

The targeted stations provide drinking water to thousands of displaced people who fled to Rahad Al-Nuba from Um Sayala, Jabra Al-Sheikh, and eastern Bara.
