JEM rebels release 60 Sudanese soldiers
July 18, 2009 (KHARTOUM) – Darfur rebel Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) released today 60 prisoners of war, as it had pledged two months ago.
On May 28, JEM delegation in Doha where it was holding talks with the Sudanese government said it would free unilaterally 60 POWs from the Sudanese army. According to rebel officials the delay had been caused by technical preparation by the Red Cross and security conditions.
“At the request of both the Sudanese authorities and the JEM, to serve as a neutral intermediary in the transfer of 55 armed forces personnel and five police personnel to the Sudanese authorities,” said Jordi Raich, head of the ICRC delegation in Sudan.
The detainees freed by the JEM were previously interviewed in private by the ICRC to make sure that they are being handed over of their own free will, the Red Cross further said.
Following the signing of a goodwill agreement with the Sudanese government, the peace process is stalled after Khartoum rejection to release JEM fighters before a ceasefire agreement.
The mediation, which hopes that Sudanese authorities would release some of the 103 death sentenced of JEM members, said the peace process would resume in August in order to include other rebel factions.
JEM leader Khalil Ibrahim threatened last week to boycott the Doha process if the mediation involves the other rebel factions saying the presence many groups will complicate the talks and weaken the position of Darfur rebels.
Djibril Bassolé, who agreed with the rebel groups to take part in the next round of talks, said he would continue dialogue with JEM leader to convince him that “the lasting peace will only be realized through the participation of all movements.”

What about the hidden massacre of Sudanese Darfuris by Khalil Ibrahim on 01.01.2009 of seven Sudanese Darfurian Tribes in Um Jurus Chad, with the knowledge of the Chadian president Idris Deby and JEM’s representatives, there shouldn’t be a peace process without khalil is being convicted for his crimes of killing Darfuris who are non Zaghawas which it should be his reason for his movement.
The matter is secretly hidden Rwanda by khalil and his representative and it should be revealed before considering any peace negotiations with khalil and his relatives “the hidden killers”
