SPLM in Yirol East County elects new secretary

July 22, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — The South Sudan ruling party, Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) in Lakes state secretariat announced last Monday the election of Yirol East County Secretary Mangar Roric Bai.

Roric Bai, well-known as (Mangar Maker Bai) was elected in Yirol East County to replace the late Michael Ater Deng who was killed in September 2008 in an ambush lay by robbery allegedly claimed to be from Upper Nile state robberies.

Late Ater was shot dead on road to Shambe while he was on SPLM mission. Yirol East county former Commissioner Mr. Santo Abenego Dominic, who had being travelling with Ater, was wounded at his chest

According to state secretary Samuel Mathiang said that there was confusion during the nomination procedures, because the wife of late Michael showed her interest to take-over the position of her husband but the majority of SPLM section rejected her candidacy because she is seen as not qualified to fit in the position of secretariat.

The SPLM constitution allows the party members to elect a new secretary within 30 days after death, eviction or the end of mandate of the former but Yirol East delayed the election after the emergence of more differences within the SPLM members in the county.

Lakes state SPLM secretary Mr. Samuel Mathiang Keer attended the election.

    Congratulation to Mr. Mangar Rorich for his victory as SPLM secrtay for Yirol East County, take up your new task in this critical period and we want you to fulfil the big shoes of the late Ater Deng, we don’t want politics of disunity, tribalism, corruption, laziness and lack of organization. my question to SPLM Lakes State Scretariat is; what are the criteria & credibilty of that election?
