Sennar health ministry reports decline in dengue fever cases
November 7, 026 (SENNAR, Sudan) – The health ministry in Sudan’s Sennar state reported a decline in dengue fever cases on Saturday, recording 3,259 infections and 16 deaths since July.
Thirty-six patients are currently receiving hospital treatment, the Ministry of Health and Social Development said.
Efforts to combat the mosquito-borne disease in Sennar come amid severe challenges to Sudan’s health system due to the ongoing conflict.
The war has significantly reduced the capacity of medical institutions to provide regular services and maintain environmental health across several regions.
Ibrahim El Awad Ahmed Abu Kuma, director general of the state health ministry, said emergency reports issued on Saturday showed a continuous improvement in the epidemiological situation.
Abu Kuma said in a statement that the number of recoveries has reached 3,207 of the total recorded cases.
He urged citizens to cooperate with disease vector control campaigns, particularly home inspections and pesticide spraying, and to adhere to health guidelines.
Mohamed Taj El Din, director of the ministry’s emergency and epidemic control department, said the East Sennar locality recorded the highest number of infections with 1,113 cases.
This was followed by Sennar locality with 885 cases, Singa with 808, Abu Hujar with 309, El Suki with 111, and Ed Dali and El Mazmoum with 33 cases, Taj El Din said.
The Dinder locality recorded three cases.
Taj El Din said 36 patients remained hospitalized, including 14 in East Sennar, 10 in Abu Hujar, six in El Suki, and four in Sennar.
Dinder, Ed Dali, and El Mazmoum reported no new cases in the daily update.
The figures represent the cumulative toll over four months based on records from state health institutions, Taj El Din added, noting a noticeable improvement in the overall health situation.
Fatima Mohammed Abdel Halim, director of the primary health care general directorate, said vector control campaigns are ongoing across all localities in the state.
She praised residents for their cooperation with inspection and home spraying teams.
