NCP leader for Southern Sudan attend party’s conference in W. Equatoria

September 19, 2009 (YAMBIO) – Mrs. Agnes Poni Lukudu, the President of National Congress Party (NCP) Southern Sector, arrived today in Western Equatoria State for the third State Convention of Sudan’s dominant party.

The conference will be held under the theme of “Peace Development Democratic transformation, and Good Governance” under the auspices of the chairperson of NCP Southern sector.

Mrs.Agnes in statements made today she condemned the tribal fighting in the semi-autonomous region saying “there is something rotten in south Sudan that is why tribes are fighting each other on simple issues.

She also pointed out that the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) is the responsibility of the two peace partners urging to work together in order to make “unity and peace attractive in South Sudan.”

She also called on the NCP membership to be vocal and strong to implement the programme of the party for the common welfare in coordination with the state government

Meanwhile, the deputy Governor of WES, Mr. Joseph Ngere Paciko praised the effort of Mrs. Agnes Poni for opening the third convention of the NCP. He also hailed her frank speech.

“We need people who are strong, with clear vision because we need good things for South,” he said, before adding “There is a freedom of expression to contact rallies, public speeches… but all the political parties are shying away.”

He further called on the NCP to work with the SPLM to implement the 2005 peace agreement and to stop dispute over outstanding issues in order to achieve development and provide the necessary service to the needy citizens.

He also urged the NCP to make unity attractive. “We waste time discussing CPA, boundaries, petroleum …” he stressed.
