Sudanese President pledges to conduct self-determination

October 1, 2009 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese president pledged today to conduct the referendum for self-determination in Southern Sudan despite the current differences between the two signatories of 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) on its implementation.

For several months the National Congress Party (NCP) and the Sudan people’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) have been discussing how the referendum law should look like that would regulate the secession vote process scheduled for 2011.

But talks on the most complicated and sensitive law in implementation of the CPA remains far from reaching an agreement while the bill is expected to be adopted before the end of the year, according to the NCP parliament speaker.

The NCP says all southerners should vote in the referendum but the SPLM says that only those who are living in the semi-autonomous region should participate. Also Khartoum recently shifted its position on the quorum of the required voters for separation from 75% to 90; while Juba pleads for the simple majority of 50+1.

“Referenda in Southern Sudan, is a right guaranteed by the agreement (CPA), however disagreed on some details, the principle of the referendum remains undisputed. It should be held on time and all southerners have the right to participate in self-determination,” the Sudanese president said on Thursday.

“The unity of Sudan’s land and people’s is our strategic and irreversible goal. We will work to achieve it through the political means, persuasion, confidence building and promotion of social and political justice,” he further stressed.

Juba conference of opposition parties and the southern Sudan ruling party the SPLM reaffirmed the right of self-determination for the south and called to accept the principle of simple majority for the referendum on self determination for southern Sudan.

Omer Al-Bashir, who is also the NCP chairman, was speaking at the opening session of the third general conference of the ruling party in Khartoum.

Over 6,000 delegates take part in the three day conference which is also attended by representatives of more than 50 political organizations from 35 Arab, African, Asian and European countries.

President Al-Bashir also said he supported the democratic transition in the country and to hold free and fair election next April.

“As we have stated, we affirm our commitment to hold the election on schedule, with transparency, impartiality and monitoring.”

The Sudanese president who took a conciliatory tone also said that Darfur conflict would mark its end soon, adding that the government would face the intransigence of rebel leaders with patience and called them to join peace process and to participate in Darfur development.

Uniting the country by stealing referendum is

just declaration of war on all southerners.

SPLA should be prepared for the worst. After they steal the referendum, the NCP will come after key SPLA officials and kill in a defenseless manner like those chiefs that were killed in 1971 at the end of Anya-nya I. People need to learn from history.

    War is far from over!

Now, it is Al-Bashier & NCP on Self-Determination & election on time on one hand, and Salva Kiir, Al-Turabi, Al-Mahdi for boycotting the election on the other hand.

Sudan’s politics is so funny!! The Soborne trained lawyer, Al-Turabi is with SPLM/A shoulder to shoulder supporting South sudan Independence? Any one should smell sulfur on that stage shared by Al-Turabi, Al-mahdi, Pagan Amum, Salva Kiir. It makes me begin to think the conflict between NCP & PCP was staged to lured anything, you name it. Signing CPA to lure Garang & get killed; to killing south sudanese aspiration through killing the CPA. Al-Turabi is tricking Kiir and SPLM to kill the south sudan Independence.

NCP would never let Al-Turabi be with SPLM in Juba if this is not Jallaba conspricies to confuse Kiir, the SPLM chairman. Remembered! A-Turabi was jailed by the same NCP over just signing the MOU with SPLM before the CPA. There is no doubt both NCP’s Taha & Al-Turabi are smart tough cookies and both were closed allies. I SMELL A RAT!! Kiir wake up!

Bashir is a proven liar. He tells one thing to the public and tells his lieutenants something else behind closed doors. Bashir is gonna fool anybody anymore. How can referendum be done with those ridiculous demands from Bashir’s NCP? The man just has to come clean that he is a bloodthirsty SOB and can never solve anything in Sudan. The sooner he dies, the better for the Sudanese people who have faced oppression for decades under his dictatorial rule.

    Bashir and its NCP

Look he said little about peace in Darfur and much about referendum laws which shows no changes in his politics. An increase of 75-90% votes and the fact that only those who lives in the South to participate is disastrious to self-determination together with posibility of autonomy of the South. this is not how we expect that referendum to look like. otherwise, if that referendum come we will dump it in the bin whether by hock-and-crock.

Mr Al Bashier will do as he promised no doubt about as his NCP party wants to create a prosper Sudan which will compete with country like UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait! He tasted the war and realized that it is very fruitless at all he has an ambition to build developmental projects unlike our government that is busy looting its own people instead of lifting them out of the misery and Ignorance!!but the so-called self-determination for Southern Sudanese will be handled with great care as it is indeed unpredictable

I believe Mr.Omar is lying in present of international community and other foreign country. This promise will never work because he is trying to pretend in present of international community. It is something wonderful. Omar has been in power for more than twenty years and he has never fulfilled his promise.

How comes southern Sudan self-determination will be positive while he did not stop arming tribal militias in Sudan. The criminal always lies to convince people. Sudanese are sacked to let this man created hatred in Sudan. He should be impeached for these problems that facing the Sudanese people. I believe that self-determination is the only option that the south can get away from the north.

It is better to declare self-determination when this man has stepped down from power. Omar has killed million of people in Sudan and he should be viewed as a good president. Omar was not born to rule for life even if he does something good for the people. There are many Sudanese who know how to lead. I do not understand why Sudanese are reluctant instead of boycotting his speech.

His speeches are disgusing and valueless to me because I do not see him as president. What on earth inmate is called president? I want President Kiir to be Sudan president because he is very clear like paradise. The Sudanese must say YES to President Kiir and NO to Omar al Bahir.

We don’t care Bashir, whether it is 90% or 75% or 50+1% votes for self determination of the South, we don’t real care about that because, there are two alternatives we can do. One by unilaterally declaring self determination for the South before 2011 or (two) by winning self determination by only 50+1% votes for an independent South that’s it period
