Juba government hunts individuals buying voter registration slips

November 27, 2009 (JUBA) — The government of Southern Sudan yesterday said is deploying security forces in and around voter registration centers and villages to closely monitor those alleged to be buying voter registration slips from potential registered electorates.

SPLAjuba.jpgComplaints and rumors of voter registration frauds begin to flock media on daily basis. Myriad of unverified grievances are increasing as Sudan enters her first democratic elections after 24 years.

Speaking to Sudan tribune, General Gier Chuang Aluong, GOSS minister of internal affairs, said, “We have heard of rumors that there are people who buy registration slips from registered potential voters.”

These rumors are increasing and this is why the government has decided to deploy police and security elements to monitor authenticity of such rumors, he further said.

Similarly, another official who chose to remain anonymous confirmed that alarming and distressing rumors are circulating in South Sudan about groups of unidentified individuals targeting major cities buying election registration slips from the potential registered electorates.

The official said one registration slip is said to be costing more than 1300 SDG (about 5000 USD).

The vitality of this election slip is to qualify the electorate to vote in 2010/2011.meaning this serves as official document showing eligibility of individual wanting to vote during elections.

The official who expressed concern said hardly understands the strategy of this group in the poverty stricken region of Southern Sudan which coincided with the worst period of global economic recess.

“I am afraid of those citizens without principle and vision can be easily tempted to comprise their rights for immediate or short term gains in the expense of our children and grand, grand children’s’ future.”

The official went further to say such speculation do not just pop up without source. There is no smoke without fire stressing that the ultimate goal for such people is nothing but just to sabotage the upcoming elections especially the referendum.

In the light of this unpleasant scenario, what can individuals and the governments do to counter such rumors, the official posed.

“As individuals, I think we should all be vigilant and alert any suspicious acts within our communities to the authorities,” he warned.

This is Nuer and Equatorian habit.
Their goal by selling their registration numbers is to get short term riches.
Who knows they have sided with Arabs to sabotage the referendum.
They must be brought to justice.

    Dear brothers and Sisters,

The buying and selling of the vote slip is a crime.
If one or thausands found on this crime issue, then i supported the GOSS to fire them in the squad because they are enemy of the South.
I am sure that this happen in Western Equatoria, the state that is full of NCP agents.
Crime must be eradicated in the South.
    Thanks

    Dear readers,

This issue is very serious. And I can first blame South Sudan government for being built on a corrupt and weak foundation. If you have a father who is a thief, it more likely that most of the children can become thieves. This so-called GOSS is built on useless foundation by useless ruling clique.

I wish the independence South after 2011 will start with a new radical chapter of strong foundation to shame the present GOSS. We can start by arresting all the thieves who have looted GOSS money whether they have run to China, India, America, Australia, Britain and all the continents including in our neighbouring countries. It can be coordinated with authorities in those countries! It has to be a radical change to do away with these shameful foundation of six years interim period.

The of sale voter registration slips has now become a very big business used by our traditional corrupt minded people in the South. They go and repeatedly register in several registration centers and get many slips and sell them. This is because registration is done without any ID being shown. You register with one name here and register there with a different fake name ten times. It has become like grain business or money exchange in the markets.

These GOSS traditional thieves should not get surprised because it is said “like father like son.” Every where you hear people asking ‘Mony’ indi slip hana der biewu bara.

The elections registration is misunderstood by these thieves offsprings and has turned into another corruption booming business. People sell their rights for the sake of money. They have looted the public money for 5 years and not yet enough. They are now selling their rights. Shame!

We all heard of this long time now, Arabs are now using money to buy votes and soon they will use it to buy referendum, as people go poor with no services or money for food, they will just sell their votes to get some quick moneys. The best thing to do is to report anyone who buiys tickets to the authorities, also offer money to anyone who will report any election trader.

    Wow.

That is wonderful system in south. Everybody one want to get rich quick.

Corruption from boss to bodyguard. That is not a surfferise.
If there is no candidate, why civilian should keep their slips? twenty-one years in the bush, was a business of special boss and that style was copied by is followers. No doubt that south is run by cows keepers. if you are nicked, do not deny that. Is there is a solution for this corruption? Answer, is No no no because boss is a corrupt by himself.

My Recommendation: Lure and Arrest These Criminals and Thieves Through Sting Operation

The GOSS and all State police should carry out “Sting Operation” to catch these criminals and thieves.

Some police officials should impersonate “voter registration slips” sellers to find out who buy these voter registraton slips.

If they hunt them like wild animals, they will never find them at all but having police officials pretend to be sellers of these slips will facilitate it to lure these criminals into buying from them and from there, they will catch them.

These are Mr. Old Shit, Busta2, Mohammed Ali and his uncles and aunts who are buying these voter registration slips in order to reduce the registered voters turnout during the referendum. Consequently, they must be caught and brought to justice.

Hence, deterrence through Sting Operation is the best means of catching these criminals and thieves. I hope SPLM/GOSS will reach out as I recommended or suggested.

I wish Sudanese to vote wisely, because your vote will eradicate all your problems otherwise once you fail to vote like diaspora who are not recoginse by Sudanese government, then you will loose election, but there will no government of national unity again, no power sharing again.

Dr. Garang did his part, your remaining part is to vote.
