The official SUNA reported that the chamber had accepted today Suleiman’s resignation form the position.

Despite a political agreement between the ruling NCP and the SPLM last week to replace five former SPLM members including Ghazi Suleiman and Lam Akol, the National Assembly voted this week with a majority of 211 MPs to keep Suleiman in the parliament. Lam Akol and others preferred to resign from the parliament.

Following the vote in favor of Suleiman, the SPLM deputy speaker, Atem Garang, urged to free the chairmanship of Legislation and Justice Committee for his party.

In accordance with a political deal sealed between the two peace partners, in 2005, the SPLM obtained the chairmanship of this important committee.

Next week the parliament will discuss Abyei referendum and Blue Nile and Southern Kordofan consultation. Also the National Assembly could review the self-determination law soon.

Last August, the SPLM political bureau decided to expel Suleiman from the party saying he had not adhered to the “political line” of the SPLM and taking part in “destructive activities” against it.

Ghazi Suleiman is a man that is known of too much talking. He has been an SPLM member by coat but not by motives and agenda. He is an arab. A person I have known to be of wes-wes. His resignation is welcome. He should go anyway.
