Kiir warns contesting ministers not to incite violence during election campaigns
By James Gatdet Dak
February 13, 2010 (JUBA) – The President of the semi-autonomous Southern Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, has warned the contesting ministers for various seats in their respective constituencies not to incite conflicts among the people during their election campaigns.
He made the remarks on Friday during the Council of Ministers meeting which he chaired and believed to be the last pre-elections cabinet meeting until April when the next government shall be formed.
The Southern Sudan president also informed the cabinet about the imminent relief of the contesting ministers from their ministerial positions as they travel to their constituencies.
He however said some of the ministers might be re-appointed as caretakers during the elections, but with limited responsibilities.
Most of the 23 ministers constituting the cabinet including the President and the Vice President are going to contest in the elections for various positions and constituencies.
President Salva Kiir is contesting for the position of the President of the Government of Southern Sudan while his deputy, Dr. Riek Machar, is contesting for a parliamentary seat in his constituency in Unity state.
Majority of the ministers will contest for parliamentary seats in Juba and a few of them for governorship positions in their respective states.
The next elected President will have the prerogative to appoint the next cabinet which may not bring back some of the current ministers.
Sudan’s general elections campaign is set to begin on Saturday, 13th February until Friday, 9th April throughout the country.
It prompts some fears that the exercise might result to violent conflicts as rival contestants and their supporters, majority of whom will participate in elections for the first time after more than twenty years, take it violently.
Several political parties’ nominees will compete for seats in various constituencies in the South among the region’s population where illiteracy rate remains very high.
Kiir also directed the ministers seeking re-elections not to use their official public vehicles during the election campaigns.
In a related development the President in his capacity as the Commander-in-Chief of the organized forces in a meeting with senior army generals on Thursday also directed the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) not to involve itself in the elections campaigns and take sides.

Applaused Mr president. The most sensitive think with human being is when you touch their negative parts.People should campaign in spirit of mutual bi-partisanship on the bases of who can deliver best services to the people.

I definitely applauded our president and his VP for well organized messages. This is a good indication that transformation is under way, and all southerners should respect what transformation entails. Though our people are hard headed and never listened to any warnings, this is very close to home and people should be very careful in orchestrating any move that could put our civilian in danger again.
Bravo Kiir and Dr. Machar!

Great warning Salva Kiir Mayardit.
I agree that some candidates will used violent compaign because they have no idea how to address the issues/compaign ever since. Further, some will attempt to compaign on tribal bases against others and that can bring some confussion and violent. Let take out violent in these compaign till 2011 so that we relingush out common enemy at our back.
Moreover, it is agood idea for Riek Machar to contest for paliamentary in Bentiu and he will lose the Vice- Chairmanship. Wani Igga will be the vice when Machar went and run for the post of Unity State. Haaaaaaa, Riek is opportunistic, he want to go and play there like before when he sold out oil to Omar Bashier.
Good luck.
Thanks

Dear readers,
Believe me. And I beg you to believe me. The next two months will really be hot. I mean very, very hot for incompetent leaders seeking election.
Believe me, there will soon be withdrawals of candidatures including some of presidential candidates, replacements and even re-alliances.
And guess what….
Ahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaa……
I love it…

Kiir warns contesting ministers not to incite violence during election campaigns
Dear all,
Kiir and machar have unified message to all people of south sudan, that they do not want ministeries running for the positions in their constituencies to incite violent. I comment our leaders for these messages. As citizens of south sudan, you also have obligation to influence your constituencies for non-violent campaign, as Mr. Saliva and Machar delivered to all various parties constesting seats.
Dr. Machar will become a vice president in the new government if Saliva Kiir is elected in April 2010. We do not dig any problem before CPA is over. I always remind people of our suffering and struggles for 22 years, which accumulated to the legacy of John Garang,if the CPA is implemented with due faith and considerate to fighting men and women of South Sudan.
NB:Always belief in yourself before your countrymen believe in you.
Thank you,
Kuany Dak
