Khartoum to host regional forum on press freedom

KHARTOUM, April 24, 2004 (SUNA) — The 3rd African Regional Forum on Freedom of Press is due to be held in Al-Shariqah Hall in Khartoum on May 3 with the participation of delegations from Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Egypt and Uganda.

Coordinator of the forum, Dr Bakhitah Amin, said in a statement to SUNA the forum, which coincides with the International Day for Freedom of Press, will discuss an African vision for freedom of the press as well as reviewing experiences of the participating countries, capacity building, electronic publishing of press and legislations.

She explained that the regional forum is expected to issue the declaration of Khartoum, which will forwarded to the governments of hosting country and the other African countries. It is to note that the Forum is to be organized by the National Committee for UNESCO.
