Funeral held for Rumbek East chief

March 7, 2010 (RUMBEK) – The Dinka-Agaar sub-chief Dut Manuer Wol has died at the age of 92 years in Rumbek East County of Lakes state.
Dut Manuer Wol was born in 1918 and died in his hometown this week. He had been chief since 1953. He was married to three wives with 19 children of whom 5 are dead. His mother, Madam Acholdit Adhiel Madeng Kuc, was from the Pacuer of the Kook section clan of Rumbek East County. She had only three sons, the other two being Marial Manuer and Wol Manuer. These two sons died earlier.
The funeral was attended by all Lakes state politicians including three governor candidates, Chol Tong Mayay from SPLM, Gabriel Kuc Abyei from ANC-Sudan and Awan Maper Ater from NCP.
The three candidates exchange political views at the funeral place at Aduol, the headquarters of Rumbek East County. The SPLM governor candidate contributed to build two rooms and one latrine for the late chief’s family before the end of month. Meanwhile, ANC-Sudan candidate Gabriel Kuc Abyei said that he had joined the family as a family member also ensuring all the late family to stay calm.
Speaking at the funeral place, Gabriel Kuc Abyei told the gathering, “I came from my house, I am here to cry for the chief’s family. I was not coming to talk for politics, this is not a time for politics”. Kuc told southerners that this land of South Sudan is a blessed land, and if someone assumes to come to South Sudan and intends to do something bad to Southerners in their own land then it will be God to deal with him.
He also promised the funeral gathering that he will come back to Rumbek East County for pure politics after his party arranges the visit – the day I will come back to talk politics I will be judged by you gathering and you decide to vote.
NCP governor candidate Awan Maper Ater, also speaking at the same funeral gathering, said “I would like to greet everyone here in name of God. I am relative of the late chief Dut Manuer – I am not just inviting myself for the funeral – I am crying for my nephew”. He also said “If I could become governor of this state, I will not take development and whatsoever to the Khartoum government”.
“I was not interested in speaking wrongly in front of you here today at the funeral period – our late chief Dut stayed longer in power because he was ruling well our society, and now imagine we are contesting as four people for one seat of the governorship: that shows something wrong is happening in our present governance,” said Awan.
He reminded everybody that four candidates are now contesting from different parties seeking the Lakes state governorship and are relatives to one another. “I Awan Maper, I am relative to SPLM governor candidate, he is my nephew, and Kuc Abyei from ANC – Sudan is my cousin and Joseph Malwal Dong Riak is my in-law, so we are all relatives,” said Awan.
Two party figures who had unsuccessfully sought the SPLM nomination for governor were also present at the funeral: Ayual Makoi and Bol Makueng Yuol.
The families of late chief Dut Manuer Wol have decided to choose his third son, Thon Dut Manuer, as successor immediately. He has been given responsibility as sub-chief and he welcomed the family’s decision.

Why don’t you attended the funeral rite of late majok derider in 1987 and others chiefs whom died during the struggle?

Chol tong mayay is a true black man who suffered with splm during the bush time in difference difficulties although he was untrained solider and he contributed a lot to the entire citizens of lake state. I urge all peoples of lake state to vote for him not traitors who joined hand with [ARABS]
