Sudan, Darfur rebel groups sign a deal on political issues?

KHARTOUM, April 25, 2004 (KUNA) — The Sudanese government and the insurgents of ‏‏Darfur on Sunday signed an agreement on the political issues item, which forms ‏‏the main issue in the round of talks currently going on in Chadian capital ‏‏N’djamena.‏

The agreement, attended by Chadian President Idriss Deby and UN and African ‏‏Union (AU) representatives, stated the formation of a joint committee to ‏‏prepare for a conference aiming to discuss all Darfur issues.‏

Sudanese official media said that the committee would include three persons ‏‏from each side in addition to UN Secretary General, AU and Chadian ‏‏representatives. The two sides agreed to stop negotiations today to give ‏‏chance to the joint committee to meet later in N’djamena.‏

The current round of talks started last Wednesday to discuss the political ‏‏issues item after the two sides had signed on 8th April two agreements to ‏‏cease fire for 45 days and deliver humanitarian aid.
