Warrap state decentralizes recruitment for teachers

March 25, 2010 (RENK) — The southern Soudan state of Warrap has said it has already made it a policy to have the recruitment of teachers done at counties and payams levels.

“We consider it the best option because counties and payams have often claimed to know where to access qualified teachers to teach in various schools at different levels,” said Wilson Agau from directorate of general education in the state government.

He further added the decentralization of recruitment of teachers will help bring job opportunities to those with teaching profession found within the locality,

The official made these remarks in a meeting with local human resource officers, state education officers and counties education board secretaries who are expected to carry out a joint the recruitment exercise across the area after elections in Kuajok, state capital of Warrap on Thursday.

The state ministry of Education is targeting large number teachers for recruitment and deployment to all the states and counties down to payams. It is also looking at ways of automating the education system to improve its record-keeping.

The SPLM official nominee of gubernatorial post, Mrs. Nyadeng Malek Deliech, during launching of her official campaign manifesto, in the state capital of Kuajok, expressed strong desire to reform system of education by upgrading grades of teachers who over stayed on one position without promotion.

She also said will increase teacher salaries to help them not to switch their teaching profession due to payment related concerns.
