Unity state caretaker denies killing of two voters

April 14, 2010 (KHARTOUM) — Unity State Acting Caretaker Governor, William Daud Riek, dismissed the killing of two voter in polling station in his state by the southern Sudan army saying such allegations aim to “disinform public about the security situation” there.

“I was informed by telephone that at 11 am (0800 GMT), the southern army went to a polling station in Riak in (the southern) Unity State and opened fire, killing two voters and wounding one candidate,” said Lam Akol the leader of SPLM-DC in a press conference held yesterday in Khartoum..

Akol who broke away from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) in June 2009, is the challenger of Salva Kiir for the presidency of southern Sudan government. He had been banned from exercising political activities before the electoral campaign and his supporters were intimidated and detained.

“We wish to confirm that nobody has been killed by the security forces in Unity State,” said the Acting Governor in a statement sent to Sudan Tribune on Wednesday denying Akol accusation of the murders.

“The information we have is that a misunderstanding broke out amongst voters at Kal Kuony Polling Center which led to skirmish,” William said without further details. He added that one person was injured and was transported to the hospital.

The Unity State High Election Committee did not comment on the incident.

In accordance with the procedures set force by the NEC, security personnel can only enter into a polling station at the request of an election official.

Agelina Teny, an independent candidate running for gubernatorial position in the oil-rich Unity state has reported wide spread irregularities on the first day of polling in the state.

She also accused the electoral body in the state of allowing boys and girls as young as ten years old to vote, adding that personal ID cards in many instances were not asked from voters.

    Dear South Sudanese,

The SPLA’s security forces are wasting their time trying to rigg the election on behalf of Taban Deng Gai. Mrs. Angelina Teny is the winner of the election in unity state. It is peace in the next 7 months or war(cold or hot). That depends on what happens in unity state-electing Angelina, NBG-electing General Dau Aturjong Nyuol and WES-electing Joseph Bakosoro.

Otherwise, forget about the peace in the next 7 months in south sudan. It will only be a false start that seems like peace, and the time-bomb of supression will explode into open. It is a shame the SPLM is the main culprit in hijacking the Referendum through this useless election. This election ruins South sudanese unity before Referendum.

This shows that Lam Akol is really a foolish and retarded leader, how can you take what you heard on the phone as being a real event? If Lam is a responsible politician, why did he not call the governor or police commissioner to find out and confirm such rumours, any one with commonsense cannot just hear rumours on the telephon then go around spread it as true news, very foolish indeed, another blow to Lam credibility. south sudan cannot be ruled by rumour mongers and cowards.

I hope this useless allegation being steered by Nuer Civilians in the Unity State will not go to RUWENG BIEMNOM COUNTY and PANARUU. Let those “BONEHEAD” Nuer people killed themselves. What is the point of killing two voters? If Nuer people like killing, then why they don’t killed Omar Bashir, the Southern Sudanese number one enemy? Unity State will never be good at all with the present of Nuer people.

Second, look at this dead minded so call Lam Akol. He said that he want to run for Presidency position in Sudan and now he is trying to be an announcer or a reporter. What kind of leadership is that? Is that the kind of leadership he wanted to governing Sudan in which he wanted to be a President and a reporter at the same time? Lam Akol will never succeed in his life since he is using Nuer people as his forces.

    Dear all South Sudanese :

This is a time we have to unite wether you are in Khartoum or South, because the article below illustrates the danger a head. Check it out the following:

Sudan president asks opposition to join government

Many opposition parties boycotted all or part of the vote
Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir has asked opposition parties to join his government if he wins landmark elections currently under way.

With polling due to end on Thursday, Mr Bashir has extended an offer to other parties to join his ruling National Congress Party.

Many of Sudan’s opposition parties boycotted all or part of the poll, alleging fraud by Mr Bashir’s party.

The elections are the first multiparty polls in the country since 1984.

The polls are part of a peace deal which ended two decades of war in 2005, but have been marred by voting irregularities and alleged rigging.

They are widely expected to keep Mr Bashir, who is wanted by the UN for war crimes in Sudan’s Darfur region, in power for another five years.

The BBC’s Martin Plaut says the key issue is now whether the international community will endorse the elections as free and fair.

Polling began on Sunday and was due to last three days, but was later extended.

    Dear All,

Who is William Daud Riek ? Is there Caretaker Governor called William Daud in Unity state?

Was he appointed by Kiir ? NO
Ok, I remember William Daud is Taban Deng Gai close friend. I remember William Daud is Unity state Minister of Education who joined the SPLM in 2006.Do he have enough information about movement? NO

Daud is just Unity state’s parasites who did not participated during liberation struggle. He is food lover.

Yes, the NEC official cannot comment becasue the Chairman of state is from Jikany the same clan with Taban Deng. He is not neutral. He is aide with Taban Deng.
