Warrap governor calls for support to new cabinet

By Ngor Arol Garang

June 27, 2010, (ALEK, Warrap) — The first female politician elected into higher executive office, in the southern state of Warrap; Governor Nyandeng Malek Deliech, has on Sunday called for support to her cabinet.

Governor Nyandeng thanked citizens for patience they exercised as she was consulting with political leaders, intellectuals and the state assembly on the formation of the new cabinet. “I thank you for showing patience while forming this cabinet and I called upon you to extend them your supports,” she said.

Warrap is one of the southern states whose new cabinet is composed of almost new faces. The new government included SPLM Secretary General in the state, Makuc Kuc Ngongdit as political advisors, senior national intelligence and security service, Colonel Dominic Deng Kuoc Malek as Twic county commissioner and a former Twic County commissioner, James Achii as security advisor.

Achii who used to be one of the close aides to late SPLM chairman, Dr. John Garang has been out of politics for nearly five years since the formation of the government of southern Sudan five years ago. He served as Twic county commissioner in the SPLA controlled areas during war.

While majority viewed his appointment as advisor replacing General Garang Mabil Deng as political recognition of his participation during liberation struggle, others took it as unfair to appoint him as immediate replacement of General Mabil.

However, General Mabil in an interview with Sudan Tribune from Juba was quick to dismiss allegations that he would feel it as a conspiracy to push him out of the government.

“Those are just allegations. Why should I feel it as conspiracy if another person is appointed? Was it a conspiracy when I was appointed to replace my predecessor,” asked General Mabil.

“They gave me an opportunity to serve and so I should give other people opportunity to serve the same people I have served. After all we are one and the same people with the same vision of the SPLM,” he said, warning that “those trying to plant seeds of hatred do without dragging him into their behaviors. Those trying to cultivate seeds of hatred should practice it outside my own garden. I am not their likes,” he warned.

Yel Mayar Maren is named as new deputy Governor and State Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement Agencies. Majok Bol Kur as finance of finance, Kuol Agany as minister of legal affairs, Aniek Tong as minister physical infrastructure, Madhel Malek as minister of education, Anei Mangong as minister of information, Kuot Mawien as minister of agriculture, Sabit Makana as minister of rural development while Achol Chier Rehan as minister of parliamentary affairs.

The five advisors include James Achii as security advisor, Makuc Makuc Ngongdit as political advisor, Andrew Kuac as peace advisor and former health minister Achuil Akoc as economic affairs advisor.

While there are six counties in Warrap State, Alfonse Anei has been named as county commissioner at the headquarters based in the state capital of Kwajok.

In respected places, Akec Tong is named as county commissioner for Tonj South, Aciec Kuot for Gogrial West, Victor Atem for Gogrial East, Daniel Dhieu for Tonj North, John Mayiik for Tonj North while former spy officer, Colonel Dominic Deng Kuoc Malek is named county commissioner for Twuic.
