Over 700 SPLM-DC members in Western Bahr El-Ghazal join SPLM

July 26, 2010 (KHARTOUM) — At least 700 members of the Sudan People Liberation Movement for Democratic Change (SPLM-DC) led by former Sudanese foreign affairs minister, Lam Akol, have crossed over and joined the southern ruling party, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Western Bahr el Ghazal.

Chairperson George Stephen Musa who led the mass defection said that one of the reasons behind this move was the realization that the SPLM is the only vibrant party that has managed to shake the northern ruling party, the National Congress Party (NCP), without compromising southern interests during the last five years and since signing the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA).

The governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal state Rizik Zachariah held reception for the defectors in the southern state town of Wau in his capacity as SPLM chairman in the state.

Musa said another reason for the defection is that the position shown by the SPLM on referendum for Southerners was in contrast to that of SPLM-DC which called for postponing it.

Last month, the deputy chairman of SPLM-DC Charles Kisanga announced his return to the mainstream SPLM less than six months before a referendum on independence for the region. He was joined by thousands of former SPLM-DC members in Sudan and across the world.

When contacted for his reaction on the new development, the SPLM-DC Chairman Lam Akol said that with the absence of Kisanga the party had “nothing to lose”.

“I wish him the best of luck. He is free to defect and join any political party he like because it is his constitutional right to do so without scrutiny,” he added.

SPLM-DC was formed by Akol who, while part of the mainstream SPLM, frequently accused its leaders of corruption and mismanagement. From the start, many in the South viewed him with suspicion given his close ties with the NCP headed by president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir.

Akol was the sole candidate running against SPLM leader Salva Kiir for South Sudan presidency but gained only 7% of the votes. He afterwards accused the SPLM of vote rigging and intimidation.

His former deputy claimed that the NCP backed him to run against Kiir and further alleged that Akol embezzled money he received from the NCP to use in his campaign.

    There we go again,

Is this a political calculation or a merely desperation for the true color of SPLM-DC? Was this a coordinated effort by the former members of SPLM-DC to colored-face themselves because it is eminent that secession is at glance? However, I am not falling into the brush of more members of SPLM-Dc are jointing the SPLM. They should for their own good and if they were been fooled enough, they would waited until we settled the referendum with Khartoum without their present. The end game for the old dog is coming this January.

Ha ha ha poor puppies of dinkas in pursuit of money, they ealeir thought DC is source of money and now they realise that its NGO. To hell with your mongrel corrupt community, you always sell yourselves to arabs and betray your own Southerns. This move doesn’t affect the progress og DC, still DC will exist and it will achieved it goals and objectives without worthless individuals. How much you tried to trivial the image of DC but nothing will affect the real party from reaching the dream World.

Lam Akol is out of tricks and left with a rabbit in his hat. The patriots that joined him were duped into following him but they now know his true colors. He is out to ruin the South and balkanize it into tribes against tribes with hope of weakening majority tribes and level the playing field. However, this is not going to garner support from the Southern populace.

Haaaaaaa, I doubt he had such big number of supporters. I was thinking they were two person only Lam and his deputy running this NCP sister party.

SPLM/A must be very carefull not to loose money like NCP did in the time of Fashoda Peace agreement in the time of Late Dr.Garang, where most southerners living in Khartoum used to go to Republical Palace coming from Haj Yousif and Mayo and claim that they came from jungles spilit from Dr. Garang.

They were paid a lot of money, for just to be exposed on TV to delude the public opinion that Garang was left alone. I remeber, one of the guys telling his story with SPLM/A; he said; ” I personnaly met Garang in Souk Wau when we were sitting at the bank of river Jour bank I told him that peace is good for us but he refused and I left him and came to Khartoum to bring peace”.

    Hi honourable readers,

Can we survive outside influences if we can not respect ourselves as southern sudanese who are contemplating to achieve goals for our children and may be our grandchildren? I really doubt whether we can build bridges among ourselves.

One party system will not take us forward because we have to have checks and balances and one party can not check itself because members will be afraid to speak out. Americans and Europeans will not accept one party system nor will they accept dictatorship. There is something funcy about condemnation of only one party which is accused of being in collaboration with NCP. SPLM is a partner of NCP. Does SPLM wants to be the only party dealing with NCP ? I do not think it will work that way unless you want southern sudan to be ——- what a mass.

I think it is a lost opportunty for southern sudan to be a nation with prosperous and promising future.

    What a wast!

Suppotrs of Rech Machat who frequenly attack crd Pagan Amuam and crd Yassir Araman just simply because of their adherence to the principles of the national movement SPLM/A since its outbreack are now meantining silent because their master Lam Akol is going to end up sooner just like Rech Machat who escaped in 2002 to Nairobi when Paulino Mattip vowed to put his own life to held

Welcome back Rech Machat, but tell your supportes to accepte the movement principls as you do right now.

back to the point most of you true SPLM/A commentries knew them who they are specialy when they read acheivements of SPLM/A legitimat members whom I put their names above. they alway attacked them to satisfiy Lam Akol in Khartoum who opposed your movement aims. most of you had never read their commentires aganist Lam Akol until the very last one who will joined SPLM/A because Khatoum regime will never pay Lam Akol after 2011 because things are about to change at that time.

NCP will not expulsion Lam Akol right now because his embezzers have some duties to do at the moment in South Soudan

please don’t forgat that SPLM/A forwad ever backward never

    SPLM Oyee!

Unity of the people of Southern Sudan Oyee!

This is a clear indication that SPLM-DC is coming to an end. We want Dr Lam Akol to rejoin his historical party, the SPLM like these members, so that we achieve the Southern Dream (independence) together. The remaining time is very short, all must come together for the achievement of the independence.

    Welcome back dear all comrades!

The political confusion in the South is due to lack of civilisation ,illiteracy and poverty leading to politicians to consider Khartoum as the source of life .God must do something to change these people .and He(God) must make referendum peacful and sucessful so that the doors to Khartoum are close .
