New head of South Sudan’s Employees body welcomes his appointment

September 17, 2010 (MALAKAL) – The newly appointed chairman of Southern Sudan Employees’ Justice Chamber (SSEJC), Dhieu Mathok Diing Wol, has welcomed his appointment and thanked south Sudan’s leadership for selecting him to the position.
Speaking to Sudan Tribune via the phone from India where he is currently visiting, Mathok thanked South Sudan’s president Salva Kiir for his trust and extended his appreciation to all those who backed his nomination.
“I thank colleagues and friends from other communities who might have helped in one way or another, for I believe this was not an individual work” Mathok said.
Dhieu Mathok was appointed by the semi-autonomous Government of Southern Sudan (GoSS) to his new position on Wednesday 15 September.
Born to a family with tradition of chieftaincy in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, Mathok soon became an inspiring figure in local community after he completed his higher education at the University of Juba in 1990s.
Owning to his political activism during university years, Mathok was selected by the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) to hold a ministerial position months after he graduated from university. Mathok quickly rose through the ranks of the NCP, the dominant party in north Sudan, and became member of the party’s Leadership Council.
Popularly known as Sultan Dhieu, Mathok held a number of ministerial positions at provincial and national levels. He remained a member of the NCP until 2007 when he defected to the ruling party of southern Sudan, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM).
Mathok is a holder of doctorate in peace and conflict resolutions studies. He was one of the SPLM’s members who stood independently in April’s elections after he failed to gain approval for his candidacy by the SPLM’s politburo, the top executive authority in the SPLM’s structure of leadership.
As a new chairman of SSEJC chairman, he replaced Elizabeth Manoah Majok, who served at the position until she was demoted to the position of new undersecretary in the ministry of Commerce and Industry.
