Sudanese court sentences Kalma resident to death by hanging in Darfur

October 24, 2010 (KHARTOUM) — A Sudanese court sentenced to death by hanging on Sunday a resident of Kalma camp in South Darfur for alleged attempt to kill a supporter of the Doha peace process, Sudan Tribune has learnt.

Hussein Hassan Abdel Kareem was arrested on July 22 by a pro-Doha group in the camp who delivered him to the Sudanese security service accusing him of being an anti-Doha activist inside the camp.

“The pro-Doha [group] lured Hussein that day telling him by telephone they want to meet them for an important matter. But when he met them, they beat […] and arrested him before to hand[ing] him over to the security service,” said a resident from the camp who requested anonymity.

Kalma residents are mostly supporters of Abdel Wahid Al-Nur, leader of the rebel Sudan Liberation Movement, which refuses to participate in the peace process asking to improve the security situation and to protect the IDPs.

Since the establishment last February of the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM) led by a former governor of Darfur, the new group got some supporters insides the camps as the leader of this group El-Tigani El-Sissi belongs to the same ethnic group, Fur tribe, as Nur.

Based on the accounts of the security service a court in Nyala sentenced Hussein to death by hanging despite several witnesses from the displaced community attesting that the accused has nothing with politics and all the charges against him are unfounded.

The Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Kalma say the government has recruited some people inside the camp to intimidate residents in an attempt to push them into leaving.

Kalma IDP camp, which is the home of some 100,000 residents, witnessed bloody clashes between pro and anti-Doha peace process in July this year.

The IDPs reached by Sudan Tribune decried the lack of justice in the region saying the trial was unfair.

“To successfully implement their own agendas, the authorities do not hesitate to sacrifice the life of an innocent civilian who did nothing wrong,” said another source from the camp.

South Darfur Governor Abdel Hamid Musa Kasha has said he is determined to remove Kalma camp which he described “as military base and political tribune” for the rebel leader Abdel Wahid Al-Nur who is not part of the peace process in Doha.

The eerie silence of the International Community due to American plan to appeal Islamist to allow for smooth refernadum of South; has cause much damage to people of Darfur who are also victims of the Islamist as people of South Sudan. The late Dr. Garang has never discilminated his families either in Darfur, Blue Nile, Nuba Mountains or South Sudan. Today Obama sent an Envoy to Sudan who knows nothing about Africa but because he is just a close friend to the elected President. Scott Gration told NCP to kill rape; in Darfur but must allow the people of South Sudan to seceed from the North. Its a blind policy that solve blood problem with blood. Gration when he split SLM/A to create his own movement that is now led by Tigani Sessy told Abdul Wahid; “Wahid; very soon you will come to me on your knees begging”. The results of that threats appeared when those loyal to Gration killed seven of commanders in Jabal Marra on 25th July 2009, Killings of 25 the IDPs in different IDPs camps and the Tebarat killing where 72 people killed and other injured.
Obama you stand accountable before the history, because appointed a friend to please him for blood of innocent civilinas. Darfur is a nation like America, its twice size of Farnce its will one day stand on its feets, and will remeber a first balck American President with dismay.

I highly condemn the barbaric act of the genocide regime of Khartoum to sentence to death an innocent IDP who has no link to what is happening in Darfur; except his ethnic affiliation. The sentence to death of 9 innocent civilians in Khartoum alleged of killing the editor in chief of Al-wifaq news paper; the indiscriminate killing and arresting innocent civilians prove the genocide intend of the regime of Khartoum against Darfuris African origin. Yes, I deeply agree with one of the commenter that; Darfurian people blood was compromised by Obama administration (the first black Africa America President to betray African people of Darfur) to achieve peaceful referendum. But there is something called history. Today Iam asking Ibrahim Gambari who wants to hand over 6 innocent IDPs to their killers; what is your logical explanation to this death sentence other than intention to annihilate these people from the surface of the earth?

Ibrahim Gambari should be taken to the Hague with Bashir together. It is in appropriate to hang such an innocent and poor old man.

I pity the situation of the Darfuris amidst the joint world leaders overlooking such acts. UNAMID, UNSC, ICC, UNMISS and etc powers, where are you? Are you not so much concerned to stop the atrocities of the Bashir’s regime on the Fur community?

Why the UN pay deaf ear to the ICC criminals and look on prosecution of Darfur’s elder by genocide perpetrators?
