Sudanese official discusses humanitarian situation in Darfur with UN envoy

KHARTOUM, May 11, 2004 (SUNA) — The State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Najib Al-Khair Abdul-Wahab, Tuesday received the acting Resident Coordinator of the United Nations for Humanitarian Affairs in Sudan and discussed the humanitarian situations in Darfur and ways of guaranteeing more humanitarian aid to the three Darfur states.

In a press statement, the minister said that the acting Resident Coordinator conveyed to him the UN concern with the situation in Sudan, adding that they deliberated about the humanitarian aid extended by the UN in Darfur.

Abdul-Wahab said that the acting UN Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in Sudan has expressed his satisfaction over the existing quantities of humanitarian aid.

He indicated that the government is to work together with the UN in the context of the partnership between them.

The minister said that the delegation of the African Union is continuing its efforts to prepare a report on the requirements toward monitoring the cease-fire in Darfur.
