Uganda and South Sudan to discuss border row
November 19, 2010 (KAMPALA) – Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni will meet Southern Sudan government President Salva Kiir Mayardit to discuss border dispute and ways to resolve it amicably, Kampala said this week.
The expected meeting was announced by a spokesperson from the Ugandan presidency this week following reports published by the government press accusing the southern Sudan army of attacking Dengolo village located near the joint border.
President Museveni and Sudan’s first vice-president Mayardit who heads southern Sudan government will hold talks on border dispute based on treaties back to the British colonial area, said a spokesperson of the Ugandan president without providing more details about the date of this meeting.
The official further indicated in a statement published Tuesday that President Museveni made the remarks during a public rally attended by residents of the border district of Moyo without elaborating.
“Some of these people don’t know what government is. You can’t just change borders of a country, it is impossible. If you look at the constitution of Uganda, all the borders of Uganda are listed,” said Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, according to the statement.
Ugandan surveyors will inspect the border after the southern Sudan referendum on self-determination scheduled in January 2011.
Uganda said some 11 villagers had been abducted by southern Sudanese soldiers, but the spokesperson denied that saying that SPLA troops are deployed at that point.
“Many people think anyone moving along the borders armed belongs to the SPLA. That’s ridiculous. We also have armed wildlife and forestry authorities who oversee forest reserves,” the SPLA spokesperson told Sudan Tribune.
Since last year, Museveni and Mayadrit agreed to demarcate border but the issue is expected to be carried out after the outcome of January referendum.

Salva Kiir Miyardit need to do one thing at a time. The border of Uganda and Southern Sudan is not something that can take a year or more for discussion. It is something that can be discussed just within a day and get finished within a day even. What Salva Kiir Miyardit need to work so hard is the border of Abyei and Misseriya who claimed Abyei as their land.
Second, if Salva Kiir don’t watch out from Museveni, then this time his plane will fall on the mountain of Buma. Salva Kiir needs to watch out from Museveni.

Discussing the border issue is best if it’s gonna stop the criminals who disguise themselves as SPLA military. The issue of demarcation of the Uganda-South Sudan boundary does not apply here since this was done ages ago.
What remains is the deployment of both UPDF and SPLA at this order to enforce harmony on both sides and splash out criminals looking to halt the good relations between the two friendly nations.
