Ethiopia, Sudan capitals sign twin city agreement to boost ties

December 26, 2010 (ADDIS ABABA) – Ethiopia and Sudan on Saturday signed an agreement in Addis Ababa to twin the two countries’ capital cities, in a bid to enhance bilateral cooperation, Sudan Tribune has learnt.

The agreement was signed between Addis Ababa mayor, Kuma Demeksa and his Khartoum counterpart, Abdulrahman Elkahdin.

During the signing ceremony, it was disclosed that the agreement would enable the two cities to cooperate in the areas of tourism, trade and investment and further creates business opportunities to people of capital cities of the two neighbors.

Speaking on the occasion, Addis Ababa’s Kuma said the twin city agreement will further bolster the long standing ties between the countries.

On behalf of their respective administrations, the two mayors expressed commitment to implement the agreement.

The Mayor of Khartoum Abdulrahman said the Ethiopia-Sudan strategic partnership that is based on mutual benefit is exemplary in the region.

He said the development efforts that he witness in his visit in Addis Ababa were wonderful.

The Sudanese mayor invited Kuma to visit Khartoum.
