South Sudan Vice President calls for the lawful spending of public money

November 10, 2011 (JUBA) – The vice president of South Sudan, Riek Machar, on Thursday called on ministers to spend South Sudan’s public money lawfully, effectively and transparently.

Machar made the remarks during the opening of a workshop organised by the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs on ways to make ministers more effective.

He also called on ministers to establish better communication with their staff in the civil service so that they can play an effective role in planning and implementing the programmes of their various respective ministries.

Presentations at the event were also made by international experts who shared their countries’ experiences.

Time management, understanding basic processes, the procedures of the government and working in the national interest above tribal and personal interests were discussed at the workshop.

The discussions also included understanding how to translate a policy aspiration into a concrete achievement and consistently communicating priorities and achievements to key audiences.

Do not over spend and still all the oil money now, it’s not only for you but also for the next generations to come. We should not consume it all now leaving our next generations without anything in the future, spend wisely please so that you don’t enter into wrong page of the history.

Why didn’t vice president told curruptees to be taken to court of laws for taking public fund. Vice president needs to be careful too, though he might not be the root of the weakness in the government.

    Dear Guandong

Those nice words of Dr Riek Macar are truely appealing, however, the definition of public money tend to be illusive & ambigious. You very well know how much money goes for peace through accepting thousands of illiterate militia commanders into the SPLA majority of whom are from Unity State the home area of his excellency. Now were is the public money? When illiterate cdrs take 90%

Where is his $36 million? Where did he get such lump sum of money if not from public money. This people should stop playing games with us. Mr Vce President, if you are among the 13 corrupt ministers, be quiet.
