The address was also attended by the house of representatives speaker, Bakulu Mandeson and prominent traditional rulers.

Bakosoro said he learnt of the recent rebellion of Peter Abdal Rahman Sule from the commissioner of Mundri East county on 29 October.

Sule is leader of the United Democratic Front, a faction which split from the United Democratic Salvation Front in 2003.

Sule was arrested after a battle with the South Sudanese army, the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA), on 3 November.

Bakosoro applauded the county authorities and citizens of Mundri East and in particular the citizens of Jambo for alerting the state government on the presence of Sule’s forces.

“I would like to make it clear to all people that Western Equatoria state shall not be used as courtyard for waging war against our new nation the Republic of South Sudan and Western Equatoria state government. Whoever is plotting against WES will not succeed as long as people of the State need peace not war,” said Bakosoro.

The second deputy speaker, Bage James Elisa commended Bakosoro, saying, “the governor has shown the leadership of South Sudan that Western Equatoria state is not part of any rebellion, and would like to condemn in the strongest term what Abdal-Rahman Sule has done to the citizens of Western Equatoria state specially the Moru people.”

The Moru are an ethnic group residing predominantly in Mundri and Maridi counties.

Bakosoro said that the number of Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) atrocities within the state has dramatically dropped, but that citizens should be vigilant and Elisa, hailed the steps taken to apprehend the LRA leader.

The LRA is an armed militia hailing from northern Ugandan, which has been the scourge of the region for 15 years.

Sule is just an idiot and a confused person. How can you start your rebellion from another community? Do you think they will support you? Don’t you have your own village or community?

The WES leadership has shown what other states of South Sudan lacks…patriotisn and nationalism.

Most South Sudan had thought late Abu John was the only capable leader there not knowing others existed …but were never given chance to shine.

South Sudan is going to follow your wisdom, Jonglei, Unity, Lakes and Warrap leaders and communities should go there and learn from you.

It’s so painful to read some of the worthless comments you people write(s). If you people are the future of South Sudan, g-d help you all. You people are reactive and extremely emotional to make a good argument. Read the article very carefully or twice to understand before you commented. Many of you are very angry, and psychologically damaged over the years war. You’re free so rebuild your country
