The young boy also shot himself in his hand after he reportedly took a gun the father placed under the pillow while taking a rest.

Konyi told Sudan Tribune by phone that his injury was not serious and that is was not clear whether it was same bullet that injured both him and the young lad.

“I am ok, it is my son, a boy of about six years old, who is now in hospital, I am now on my way to see him there”, said Konyi.

“No bone of mine is broken in my case, just in the foot, but the boy must have broken his hand”, he added.

Baba Medan, youth and culture minister in South Sudan’s Jonglei state, who is currently in Juba, assured Sudan Tribune that Konyi’s injury was not life-threatening, but expressed concerns over the fate of the young boy.

This incident comes just days after Konyi and 14 other members of Murle community travelled to the Jonglei capital, Bor with the intention to meet rebel leader, David Yauyau.

They hoped to persuade the rebel leader to accept an amnesty South Sudan president, Salva Kiir extended to him and other rebel groups around the young nation.
