AU delegation in Khartoum to discuss demarcation of borders with South Sudan

February 10, 2014 (KHARTOUM) – A delegation from the African Union (AU) held talks on Monday with Sudanese officials on procedures for the demarcation of the border between north and south Sudan in the context of the enforcement of the cooperation agreements signed in 2012.

The two countries in joint meetings held in the past agreed on 80% of the 2,000 kilometers with five border areas remaining in dispute.

Haroun al-Rashid, the minister of state at the Sudanese presidency, affirmed to the AU technical delegation of headed by Zabron Masala, his country’s commitment to facilitating the task of the delegation and success of the efforts led by the AU High-Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP).

The delegation discussed with the Sudanese official the requirements for the demarcation of the borders including equipments and trained staff.
