Speaking to Sudan Tribune from Juba, Jonglei state minister of information Jody Jonglei, revealed they would receive former rebel leader, Yau Yau, at Juba Airport where he will arrive from Pibor payam (district) of Gumuruk.

“Yau Yau is coming to Juba tomorrow (Tuesday) to meet with the government officials, to make sure that peace is accepted,” said Jody Jonglei.

Yau Yau’s South Sudan Democratic Movement/Army (SSDM/A) Cobra faction signed a peace deal on 9 May in Addis Ababa.

The signed deal grants to The Greater Pibor, which is the homeland of Murle tribe, a special administrative status to better protect their pasture land and herds of livestock in the immense Jonglei state.

Also a special development fund for Pibor will be created and managed by the South Sudanese presidency.

“This kind of administration will bring peace among the citizens of Jonglei state, they [people of greater Pibor] will government themselves alone,” Jody said.

“Issues like cattle raiding and child abduction will stop, because administration will be close to the people”, he added.

Yau Yau rebelled four years ago against South Sudan government. The former priest waged war against Juba, claiming an independent state in Pibor and Pochalla counties.
