Drone strikes hit Sudan power grid, cutting electricity in multiple states
November 2, 2026 (KASSALA/MEROWE) – The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeted three power distribution stations in Sudan’s Kassala and Northern states on Monday, causing widespread electricity outages.
The attacks are part of a series of drone strikes over the past week hitting electricity infrastructure across much of the country.
More than 17 distribution stations have sustained severe damage in Gedaref, Khartoum, Al Jazirah, Red Sea, Sennar, White Nile, South Kordofan, River Nile, Northern, and Kassala states.
The damage has caused blackouts in multiple cities and disrupted essential services.
Local sources told Sudan Tribune that RSF drones attacked the Aroma and Halfa El Jadida electricity distribution stations in Kassala State at dawn on Monday.
The strikes destroyed both facilities and cut off power across the state, the sources said.
Additional airstrikes hit a distribution station in the city of Merowe in the Northern State, located near the Merowe Dam, one of Sudan’s largest hydroelectric facilities.
The Aroma station is a primary transformer facility for eastern Sudan’s electricity network.
It receives high-voltage power and redistributes it to Aroma and surrounding areas in Kassala State.
The region depends on the station to power critical infrastructure, including water pumping facilities, hospitals, and health centres.
On Sunday, the Sudanese government filed a formal complaint against Ethiopia with the U.N. Security Council and the African Union Peace and Security Council.
Sudan accused Addis Ababa of involvement in the recent attacks on civilian sites and power stations, which have caused civilian casualties and disrupted public services.
