Tonj South to shut down illegal check points

July 17, 2014 (TONJ) – The commissioner of Warrap state’s Tonj South county, William Wol Mayom, issued an order on Thursday to shut down illegal check points operating in the county.

Speaking to Sudan Tribune, Mayom said he had ordered personnel from the criminal investigation department to implement the directive and ensure it is properly observed.

He said four illegal check points had been falsely collecting money on behalf of county’s authorities.

Mayom said any person found illegally stopping vehicles along roadways would be disciplined accordingly.

Among the local check points facing closure is Ater-moj on Rumbek Tonj road.

The sole official check point recognised by county authorities operates at the Tonj main bridge.
