Sudan exempts certain classes of expatriates from national tax

January 22, 2015 (KHARTOUM) – The secretary-general of the Organisation of Sudanese Expatriates Affairs (OSEA), Haj Magid Siwar, has announced that it will be suspending the collection of national tax imposed on clerks and workers.

However, it will be maintaining it on six other categories of professionals “until further notice”.

The decision is in line with directives of the first vice-president at the sixth convention of expatriates held recently in Khartoum.

The ministry of finance and OSEA decided last year to reconsider a decision to impose a new tax on expats through a joint committee from the two sides.

The fees and taxes imposed on expatriats have been gradually reduced in accordance with a reform program on levies that included national contribution, taxes and fees for media and higher education.

The Sudanese government is planning to attract expat investment by offering them incentives for making remittances in hard currency through official channels rather than imposing taxes.
