Yauyau was speaking at the 32nd anniversary of the Sudan Peoples’ Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A) marked every 16th May.

His remarks came amidst reports of growing tension within the former cobra faction, a year after signing a peace deal with government.

“The two sides will never trust one another. But one mistake was made during the integration process, each of the general from Yauyau side stayed along with his forces with parallel command. Their people are divided. There is the SPLA where [James] Kubrin is part of, and the Cobra factions [but] any slight differences between two soldiers from the two sides can cause the fight”, a source in the army said by phone from Pibor.

Meanwhile, a three month old baby was shot dead, despite warnings to soldiers not to fire any bullet during their celebrations.

Abraham Mayen, a nurse at Bor hospital, said the child’s body was taken to hospital a night in preparation for burial the next morning.
