South Sudan rebels establish more institutions, appoint officials

July 17, 2015 (ADDIS ABABA) – The armed opposition faction of the Sudan Peoples’ Liberation Movement (SPLM-IO) under the leadership of former vice president, Riek Machar, has established more institutions and appointed officials to different capacities.

In the orders, dated 17 July, extended to Sudan Tribune, Machar established a national committee for energy and mining and appointed Henry Odwar as chairman of the body.

He also dissolved national committee for women and youth empowerment and renamed it as national committee for culture, youth empowerment and sports. He appointed Mannaseh Zindo to chair the committee.

The opposition leader also reappointed the former presidential advisor, Tijwog Hather Agwet as chairman of the national committee for agriculture, a position he was appointed to by the leadership last year, but had to be relieved from it when he was appointed governor of the newly created Fashoda state. A new governor from the integrated faction of General Johnson Olony has been appointed to replace Agwet in the governorship of the state.

Machar also established Sudar oil corporation and appointed Wol Thon Teny to head it as executive director. A bureau for diaspora data base, especially for diaspora in western countries and the neighbouring countries to South Sudan has been established and Dominic Itto is appointed as its executive director.

Other new appointments include Peter Oyoyo Kleto as SPLM/SPLA deputy representative to the United Republic of Tanzania and Sisto Olur Erista as deputy representative to the United Kingdom.
