Sudanese army says it recaptured area in Blue Nile from SPLM-N

August 8, 2015 (KHARTOUM) – A Sudanese military official on Saturday said the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) has recaptured a strategic town from the rebel Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/North (SPLM-N) in the Blue Nile state.

Gen. Osman Sid Ahmed, told Ashorooq TV website that his forces on Saturday have entered Taroda area on the edges of the Ingessana Hills.

He pointed that SAF seized a number of weaponry and retrieved stolen cattle, saying the area constitutes an important economic and intelligence centre because it is close to mining sites in Ingasana Mountains.

SPLM-N officials were not immediately available for comment.

Blue Nile and neighbouring South Kordofan state have been the scene of violent conflict between the SPLM-N and the Sudanese army since 2011.

The Sudanese government and rebel group failed to reach a cessation of hostilities agreement after a series of talks brokered by the African Union High Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) in December 2014.

Since, the fighting between the warring parties resumed in South Kordofan and Blue Nile.
