Lakes state youth union welcome creation of new states

October 5, 2015 (RUMBEK) – The chairperson of Rumbek Youth Union (RUMYU) in South Sudan’s Lakes state have welcomed president Salva Kiir’s creation of 18 more states.

Awut Mayom Agok said creation of extra states would enable effective delivery of basic services to the rural people and assist in tackling insecurity across states.

“On my behalf, and on behalf of Rumbek Youths in Nairobi, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Mr. President for this brilliant initiative of forming 28 states in South Sudan. Its challenge is open to the world; the eye will be set this nation based on this decision,” said Awut, in a statement extended to Sudan Tribune on Sunday.

“Now it is our compulsory duty as citizens to serve our own communities with new hope for peace. At least this indeed will ignite change and positively impact the community by providing a renewed sense of hope”, it added.

According to the youth leader, the success of the country needed support of local the community, youth and women who should all be involved in decision-making processes.

President Kiir’s decision, Awut stressed, would tackle insecurity but further expressed concerns about the likely implications the decree would have on the available resources.

The creation of states would encourage ancestral lands to be built with commitment.

“I appreciate the government’s decree with open [hands] and hope that finally things will come back to normal. Personally, the implication is disunity and lack of social networking since people will be locked to their ancestral lands”, said the youth union leader.

She, however, added that “But most importantly many doors will open to the youth.”
