Another chief killed in Wau county

December 30, 2015 (WAU) – Unknown gunmen on Monday shot and killed John Mafum Roko, the chief of Bussere payam, south of Wau town in Western Bahr el Ghazal state.

The unexpected attack by four men reportedly occurred in front of his family members.

Roko, 75, became the chief of Bussere after his 1996 appointment by then commissioner.

The deceased attended Bussere primary school in the 1950s and later joined the “Anyanya” one in 1972 before he was elevated to the post of a paramount chief.

In recent months, the killing of traditional chiefs has been predominanr in Wau county by suspected youth with the community. In May this year, a similar incident occurred in Bagari payam when paramount, chief Angelo Bagari and his wife were murdered.
