South Sudan’s Machar discusses SPLM reunification with Tanzanian former president
February 25, 2016 (ADDIS ABABA) – South Sudanese first vice president designate, Riek Machar, discussed with former president of Tanzania, Jakaya Kikwete, the reunification process of the factions of the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM).
“The First Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon met H.E. Former President and Chairman of CCM Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete of United Republic of Tanzania on February 25, 2016 in the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia,” wrote Gatkuoth in a message he posted on the social media.
“The two Leaders discussed implementation of peace agreement and the Arusha Agreement to reunite the SPLM,” he added.
During the meeting, he said, Machar was accompanied by Angelina Teny, chairperson of national committee for defence and security affairs, Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, chairperson of national committee for foreign affairs and Goi Jooyul Yol, SPLM/SPLA representative to Ethiopia and African Union.
The three factions of SPLM in government, SPLM in opposition and SPLM former detainees signed a roadmap agreement in Arusha, Tanzania, last year to process the reunification.
However, the parties have not come together to finalize the implementation of the deal, with the SPLM in opposition saying it is ready to resume the process with the other factions.
