Sudanese warplanes carry out intensified air attacks in Southern Kordofan: SPLM-N

April 4, 2016 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudan people’s Liberation Movement – North (SPLM-N) Monday said the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) warplanes continue to carry out air attacks on the rebel controlled areas, adding the bombing killed one child and wounded several civilians.

“SAF “Air Force continues to target unarmed civilians, their properties And service facilities in remote areas far from its ground operations sites in South Kordofan / Nuba Mountains,” said SPLM-N spokesperson Arnu Ngutulu Lodi in a statement extended to Sudan Tribune on Monday evening.

He pointed that a MiG fighter bomber aircraft, on Sunday afternoon dropped four bombs on Upper Komo village, adding that one bomb destroyed partially the Hakima Institute for Medical Training while the three others killed a 16-year old girl and wounded six other people.

According to the rebel official, an Antonov bomber on Monday bombed Kujur Shabia area with 13 bombs, adding in Um Dorain County it bombed Kurchi with one bomb, two bombs into Um Serdiba and three bombs into Karkraia.

Since two weeks, fierce clashes are taking place in different areas in the South Kordofan and Blue Nile states.

Through this multi-front operations, the government wants to put pressure on the SPLM-N leadership to sign a declaration of principles proposed by the African Union mediation last February.

SUDANESE ARMY VOW MORE ATTACKS

The 14th Infantry Division Deputy Commander in South Kordofan state , Mutasim Abbas, Monday vowed to carry out more attacks on the SPLM-N positions adding that SAF forces intend to “break the rebels definitively”.

In a speech to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Kadugli on Monday, Abbas further stressed that the government troops take the lead on all the fronts.

From his part, the deputy director of Operation of the National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) Mahgoub al-Khidir said the ongoing military operations in South Kordofan proceed as planned

“Secure the borders with South Sudan is the strategic objective of ongoing operations,” added the security official.

Sudan recently closed the border with South Sudan, accusing Juba of backing the SPLM-N.
