President Kiir and deputy Igga discuss coming of FVP Machar
April 7, 2016 (JUBA) – President Salva Kiir and his deputy, James Wani Igga, on Wednesday met to discuss the anticipated return to Juba of the opposition leader, Riek Machar.
The meeting was to make preparations for Machar’s reception with his accompanying officials once they land in Juba on 18 April.
“The President of the Republic of South Sudan, H. E. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit met in his office yesterday, Wednesday, in Juba with the Vice President, H. E. James Wani Igga to discuss on a number of important issues regarding SPLM and including the arrival of Dr. Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon who is expected to arrive in Juba from Pagak, South Sudan on Monday, April 18, 2016,” said Larco Lomoyat, a press officer in the presidential office.
A national preparatory committee to be headed by the finance minister, David Deng Athorbei, has been established to make the necessary arrangements.
Machar, who is the First Vice President designate, is expected to arrive in Juba on Monday, 18 April, 2016, to take up his position in a new government.
Opposition forces are being airlifted to the national capital to take part in the joint integrated units that will be responsible for the security of the city and protection of their leadership.
The preparations include office of the First Vice President and his staff, their accommodation and transportation in Juba, among others.
