18 people killed and injured after attacks in Central Darfur
June 21, 2016 (NERTITI), At least 18 people were killed and injured on Monday and Tuesday in attacks carried out by gunmen in Thur area, 80 km south-east of Zalangi the capital of Central Darfur State.
On Tuesday, an eyewitness, who requested not to be named, told Sudan Tribune that an armed group of Janjaweed militia riding motorcycles, camels and horses attacked on Monday and Tuesday Thur area killing 5 people and injuring other 13 some of them seriously wounded.
The wounded people have been evacuated to hospitals in Kass and Zalangi.
“Hundreds of people fled to the bush after the attacks and a number of children went missing,” said the eyewitness.
He further said that the gunmen looted and burnt down dozens of houses on Monday and returned on Tuesday driving four-wheel vehicles to loot Thur market and put shops on fire.
The eyewitness pointed out that the Central Darfur State security committee headed by the deputy governor, police and security commanders and Nertiti locality commissioner arrived in Thur shortly after the withdrawal of the gunmen.
