March 21, 2025 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese army said on Friday it was continuing military operations in central Khartoum after driving Rapid Support Forces (RSF) from the presidential palace and government buildings.

The army announced earlier on Friday that it had taken control of the presidential palace and ministerial headquarters after several days of fierce fighting. The remaining RSF fighters fled towards the Al-Mogran area, Tuti Island, and the Strategic Battalion headquarters and fortified themselves in some buildings in the Arab Market, the army said.

“At this moment, your heroes in the Armoured Corps are destroying the remnants of the dispersed militia forces from the palace,” the Armoured Corps media said in a Facebook post. Sudan Tribune could not independently verify the claim.

Military sources told Sudan Tribune that army forces continued to sweep the Al-Afranji Market area in central Khartoum, as well as locations on Al-Qasr Street and near the Al-Waha Mall, attacking RSF groups still holding out in a number of buildings.

The sources said the army had destroyed combat vehicles, motorcycles, armoured vehicles, and vehicles carrying advanced jamming systems. They also reported killing dozens of RSF soldiers and capturing nine fighters. Sudan Tribune was unable to confirm the casualty figures independently.

The same sources said some RSF fighters continued to surrender to the army.

The army also repelled an RSF group using armoured vehicles and infantry near the “Al-Bazianos” intersection in central Khartoum, forcing them to retreat towards the Khartoum 2 and 3 neighbourhoods, the sources added.

RSF forces, coming from positions in southern Khartoum, are attempting to break a siege on groups stationed in the city centre, but the army continues to thwart these attempts, the sources said.
